You were told you have an EVAP System Leak

No hole in tank, vacuum leak from a hose or EVAP Sensor

No machine was used. Only a scan tool and an EVAP
Smoke Machine, to solve your issues

Could something have been put in gas tank to make jerking & feels like going to shut off when slowing down/stopped & when taking off

Something funky sounds fishy to me.
I doubt the scanner would come up with a code for bad gas. But it would depend on what the codes were.
Is the check engine light on now ?

Ok so my service Engine light came on so I took the truck, a 2003 S10, to Autozone and they hooked the truck up to their tester and diagnosed it as a faulty gas cap. I purchased the cap & was told the...

there isnt usually a faulty gas cap code... there is evap system leak codes which could be caused by a faulty gas cap or filling up your gas tank while the truck running... if that was the problem and the problem is fixed then yes the codes will usually turn off after completing a few drive cycles

Check Engine light 2005 Toyota Corolla

He can't hit a switch and turn on the Check Engine Light, however there are several dozen ways a shoddy mechanic can cause that Light to come on.
Two things you can do is:
1. Disconnect the negative side of the battery and wait about 30-minutes before reconnecting. Check to see if that Light comes back. If not great! If it does:
2. Find out why the Check Engine Light is on. There should be a code that the computer has set. Take it to Autozone or other auto parts stores, where they can hook your vehicle up (for free) to a DRB Scan Tool to eloborate or extrapolate what the Code(s) are.
The real question is if the work the mechanic did caused this. Have their work checked.

Forget about the Nissan dealer and take your vehicle to one of the auto parts suppliers to have a diagnosis made, then find a competent mechanic to confirm the diagnosis and make necessary repairs.

Check engine light

you were told your vehicle has small/large evap leak detected? The leak could be coming from any number of components. Fuel tank seal, evap purge valve, check valve. The best way is to find the leak with a smoke machine. It is designed to find leaks in the evap system. There is a port with a green cap in the engine compartment. This is where the hose from the machine attaches to. Turn machine on. Where ever you see smoke, this is where the leak is.

Engine light

There are a couple simple options. The first thing I would do is check ur gas tank cap and possibly change it out that is a very common problem for newer cars that the gas tank pressuse isnt right because of a gas cap, I would replace it and see if it make the light stay off, very easy and cheep.
2. It could b an O2 censor cars usually have at least 2 of them, take your car to a auto part store and see if they will hook their computer up to it and see what the code is for the light to b on, that will tell u if its an O2 censor

Is this a V6 VQ35 or 4 cylinder QR25?? If the check engine light is flashing the car is not running on all cylinders. Misfire detected by the ECM/computer. The code for the check engine light is going to be misfire code, that will tell you which cylinder misfired. Need more info as to which powertarin you have (V6 or 4 cylinder) They both have their own bugs. Let me know. Oh. and how many miles on it also.
