Question about Lincoln MKZ

1 Answer

I have a 2007 Lincoln MKZ with the infamous driveshaft carrier bearing noise. My question is can the (front) carrier bearing be replaced alone instead of the complete driveshaft at a tune of 700 + dollars.? And where can I find the bearing? Thank you for any help.

First, I wouldn't be at a dealer

I mark all my drive shafts, as installed, and take
them to a driveshaft shop that, makes or repairs them

I have ALL driveshafts balanced

I have a Lincoln LS ,so I'm guessing your
newer MKZ is front wheel drive ??

Having once owned a trans repair shop, your
transaxle ,if that is what you have, will have to
be stripped clean, to do the bearings your talking

On a rear drive, such as my LS, you still have to
remove the rear differental case and strip it, for

The $700 sounds like a dealer fishing for a solution
to a rear wheel drive vehicle with a vibration

They try a new drive shaft, why not, only your money

Can you just be clear, can you replace the bearing only ? And if yes, where do you buy it?

Where is the carrier bearing on 2008 Lincoln MKZ awd? Is it an expensive repair/replacement? Are there more than one?

its part of the driveshaft their incorporated you have to go under vehicle and will c the drive shaft the center carrier is at the end towards the front of vehicle some vehicles carriers were designed to allow just the carrier be replaced but this one its part of the drive shaft so the whole shaft has to be replaced with it look at carrier and joint move shaft side to side and back annd forth should be tight not sloppy or noisey (clicking)if it shows damage or wear replace unbolt from rear than unbolt carrier bracket and remove unit

Can my carrier bearing on a Lincoln MKZ can it be replaced and if so how do I replace it. Can I be changed from the outside or does the transmission have to be torn apart?

I haven't had the pleasure of working on yours yet, but. Newer vehicles do have a carrier bearing on the passenger side of the car. Between the tire and transmission. You can pull it off and take it some where to have the bearing put on the shaft.(it is pressed on) If your talking about a differential bearing, then the transmission has to be pulled and opened up.

How to replace front driver side wheel bearing on a 2007 Lincoln mkz

Take everything off =tire, brake rotor , caliper, hub has to come off and bearing has to be pressed out. And pressed back in. Dont try and do it with the auto parts rental tool. Bring it to a garage and pay the $50 or $70 dollars to get it done. Will save you big headache if you dont have press. Note: you must take out a snap ring to press it out. You may have a hard time seeing it , but it;s there.

Trailblazer carrier bearing

You can't find it because the carrier is inside the differential housing! Do not throw around terms you know nothing about! Why don't you just tell us what the symptoms are instead of trying to make mechanic talk?

My carrier bearing is bad in my 96 firebird and I can't find another anywhere. No one has heard of a 2 part driveshaft in my car. Can I replace it with a solid driveshaft? Or do you know where I can find a...

If you mean the carrier bearing on the driveshaft - then you must have a v6 model. I would advise to skip replacing it and instead purchase a 1pc shaft (no carrier bearing). The cb is located near a Hi-Speed CV Joint which make changing the carrier a little difficult.
A new replacement 1pc driveshaft costs about $225.00
The carrier bearing itself may run $40-$140. ( ) - for reference...
You could also check a junk yard for a 1pc oem shaft (most shafts there are bent or have bad uj's and will cost $$ to have fixed )
>1994-2002 f-body models all have the same length from the seal of the transmission to the center of the uj @ the diff.
>when looking for an oem 1pc shaft you will find them in Steel and Aluminum. Slight differences in length when measuring center to center of the universal joints ( 40 7/8" - 40 1/2" ) - but the slip yokes vary in length, weighted / non-weighted..etc = this will make it appear the the shafts are different.
>>watch out for oem shafts with the weighted slip yoke from manual 6spd v8 models. This slip yoke may hit the trans/exhaust mount that is used on v6 models.!!

Is a 2004 ford f-150 2wd carrier bearing.. ( mid-mount bearing ) on driveshaft replaceable, or do i have to replace entire driveshaft?

it is replaceable
normally it comes complete in the rubber mount
you will have to undo the drive shaft flange at the bearing
remove the drive shaft and take it to an accredited drive shaft repair shop or take the vehicle to an accredited drive line specialist shop
the repair will require that you place the flange back on the shaft after the bearing replacement in exactly the right position or you will get harmonic vibration after the job so talk with the experts first if you want to diy
