Transmission FLUID TEMPERATURE sensor fault...cost to repair and how long can I continue to drive it?

Posted by on

1 Answer

You can not drive it at all,if you want any chance of
saving the trans

Have it looked at Immediately, to determine
if it is overheating or a sensor or other issues

The transmission control box mounted under the cubbyhole keeps on beeping when i drive my toyota verso

What is a transmission control module? A transmission control module makes adjustments based on the data it collects from the different signals it receives. Some of the sensors that communicate with the transmission control module are the brake pedal position sensor, the transmission fluid temperature sensor, the turbine speed sensor and the throttle position sensor. The information that the transmission control module gathers from all of the sensors is important in making determinations regarding smooth gear shifting. Processing this information and sending out the correct signals contributes to better fuel efficiency and better vehicle handling, as well as decreased engine emissions. For instance, the transmission fluid temperature sensor sends signals indicating if the transmission fluid is at the proper temperature. Based on these signals, the transmission can downshift if necessary. The brake pedal position sensor relays information that tells the transmission control module if the driver has applied the brakes. The throttle position sensor helps manipulate the timing of shifting.

1999 Montero Sport XLS jerking into reverse. Error Code says change Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor

Hi Sc, The job is labour intensive and may solve the problem. I wonder if the fluid in the tranny has ever been replaced? It's meant to be replaced at least once a year. If it smells burned have it replaced. Ask your shop to check the gearbox and engine mountings and in the event of your vehicle having rear wheel drive, the universal joints on the prop shaft. Regards John

Now i dont know a lot about automatics especially modern ones with all this fancy electronics thats used nowdays but i think its a fault with the temperature sensor for the gearbox. But where its located and what it looks like i have no idea it could even be mounted inside the gearbox .Sorry not a very good answer from a mechanic but?? very few of our europeon cars come with auto transmission .Evan when i do know whats wrong i cannot buy the parts for the gearbox as only re-con boxes supplied by the dealer so best advice is to try a specialist in auto box repairs only .PS some of my best students when i used to teach mechanics many moons ago were the girls so no excuses like iam only a girl please

Code p0713

The fluid temperature signal is high in the transmission. Check you fluid levels or you may be okay and the sensor is bad or the wiring is at fault.

There may be some Ohm tests you can give the sensor but you would need to research the proper readings. This part may not be very expensive and replacing it with a new one may be easier than looking everything up.

If you Web browse the topic "2003 Blazer Transmission temperature sensor" you may get diagrams and photos. If the sensor is mounted low in the casing, be prepared for a flood of trans fluid when you remove this sensor.

My 1999 Mitshubishi Mirage neutral light comes on while i'm driving and the car jerks when i put it in gear

The 1st thing you must have done here is to have the electronic control module (called the "TCM") for the transmission checked for fault codes, the transmission is computer controlled through electric solenoids and other sensors whose input is used to provide proper shifting based on load, engine temperature, vehicle speed and transmission fluid temperature. Once the codes are checked you proceed with diagnosis based on that information. This test takes a special high end electronic scan tool.

My freelander 2002 auto transmission sometimes slip and bang in and out of gears, does it seem to be computer type fault or a mechanical fault? How much will it cost to repair?

i would check teh trans fluid level first ,start engine ,handbrake on and chock drive wheels all four of them then put in reverse and check the fluid level ,if low top up with ATF dextron transmission oil

Check engine light comes on after approx. one minute. My code reader gives me a 214 in continuous memory ( cylinder ID circuit failure). I clear the code and it comes back. What is giving me this code?...

look 214 is not a valid code for a 1995 escort, this is an OBD1 system. here is a list of trouble codes for this year of ford no matter the model.

You should find the diagnostic connector under your hood normally by the fender on the battery side. By just using your test light and a jumper wire, it will tell you what kind of problem you got.

KEY ON ENGINE OFF (KOEO) TEST
Model years 1984-1995 all models of Ford
1. Make sure engine is fully warmed. If in doubt, run engine at 2000 rpm for 2 minutes.
2. Turn ignition off and wait 10 seconds for system to shut off. Make sure A/C is off and transmission is in Park (automatic) or Neutral (manual).
3. Hook up light and jumper (or a tester if you have one). Turn key to ON (do not start engine). Read the codes.

How to do it?

Example code 23: your test light should flash 2 long consecutive flashes followed by 3 short pulses.
