Check power steering fluid level. The power steering pump is powered by a belt, it has a cap which unscrews off the top. Check the level of the fluid on the dipstick. Fill with new fluid to the full mark. without knowing more details, this is probably the problem.

I have a link that explains how you may have blown a fuse while jump starting your HHR.

It states that using the junction box under the hood to jump start can blow your electronic power steering fuse. It says it is a 60 Amp fuse.

I hope this helps, if so let me know with some feedback please.

Thank you and good luck,

Wheres the deposit for pwer steering

The HHR does not use power steering fluid; it has an electric power steering motor which is mounted on the steering column under the dash. The motor has no adjustment and no maintenance is required. If you are having problems with the power steering failing you will need to contact the dealer.

Why does 2006 chevy hhr power steering suddenly stop working?

There is a known issue with the HHR (and other GM products) Electric Power Steering. GM has recalled some vehicles.

If problem is intermittent then you need to talk to dealer. May need to replace power steering motor.

If all the time, may be blown fuse (#1, 60A underhood) or 2A under dash on passenger side of console.

Hey the EPS on my 06 HHR is having issues. It

This is a known problem with the power steering which will probably require replacement of the power steering motor. The HHR uses an electric 12V DC motor to provide the power steering force, and they have started failing.

GM is recalling the Cobalt and other vehicles for this issue, but not yet the HHR. If you are out of warranty, you will probably be personally responsible for the cost of diagnostics and replacement.

You will probably need to contact your dealer unless you are able to replace the motor yourself. Sorry.

Had to jump it, replaced power steering fuse but

You may have blown more than the power steering fuse (#1, 60A). You should check all the fuses in the underhood fuse box and you will probably find at least 1 more.

Also check the inside fuse box in the passenger side of the console.
