Question about 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

1 Answer

My mechanic told me that I would have to replace my engine due to tapping sound and oil light coming on. My brother said it sounds like the lifters are stuck. We added Marvel Mystery oil and ran the car at 2000rpm for about 15 or 20 minutes, and ran again the next day. The sound is considerably less although still present. What else can be done to eliminate this problem. It is 2003 Mitsubishi Monterro Sport, 3.0L.

Unfortantly if there is internal damage you will have to replace the engine or have it rebuilt. If the oil light is on then your oil pump may be fualty, replacing the pump may fix your problem, remember if theres considerable engine damage it will need to be rebuilt or replaced. Hope this helps.

My 96 eldorado is making a ticking sound, it sounds like its inside the engine. It ticks faster when you give it gas. What could this be?

Better get a mechanic to check it out before you drive it very much.
Could be a lifter or piston pin with no oil.

BAD LIFTERS WILL MAKE A NOISE.IF VALVE LIFTERS AND LOWER SPRING SEALS BEEN REPLACED AND LIFTERS STILL NOISEY.EITHER ENGINE OIL TOO THICK OR ENGINE NEED OIL CHANGE + FILTER CHANGE.DIRTY OIL CAUSE LIFTER NOISE OR OIL PASSAGES IN THE CYLINDER HEAD STOPPED UP NOT ALLOWING LIFTERS TO GET THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF OIL.OR OIL PRESSURE TO LOW DUE TO FAULTY OIL PUMP.OIL PRESSURE SHOULD BE 29 PSI @2000 RPM. TRYING ADDING SOME SEAFOAM CLEANER IN CRANK CASE IF OIL PASSAGES STOPPED UP IT WILL CLEAN OUT OIL SLUDGE.GO TO AUTO PARTS STORE TELL THEM YOU NEED SEAFOAM.AFTER 500 MILES YOU NEED TO CHANGE OIL AND FILTER AGAIN. SEE IF THIS HELP BEFORE SPENDING ALOT OF MONEY .

Tapping Sound from 2004 GC 4.7l Engine

If the tapping noise speeds up with the speed of the engine, it's a worn valve lifter.
If the service light is on, change oil and filter, if tapping is still there, the lifter is the culprit.

Lifter problem in 2001 Hyundai accent GL

The noise you hear could very well be a lifter. But that is not what is causing your engine light to come on. The engine light problem can be diagnosed by having the codes read. You can have this done for free at most national parts chains such as Advance or Auto Zone. Good luck! I hope you find this to be very helpful!

Noise motor on 03 santa fe a guy told me it sound like the lifters but i want to be for sure

Hi if your getting a tapping noise on the top of the engine then yes it's the lifters making the the noise but before changing the lifters check that oil pressure is where it's suppose to be and that the oil is circulating and you have a good amount of pressure getting to the lifters if that's ok then replace lifters good luck

Tapping sound in The engine Head

Sounds like lifter noise. The best solution for lifter noise is, change the oil use a good quality oil , i would recommend a synthetic oil or at least a couple of quarts. Then get a bottle of MARVEL MYSTERY OIL this stuff works good add that to you oil when you change it and that should clear up any lifter noise. Another thing that might help use a higher grade gas a couple of times.

Engine noise

Sounds like stuck lifters....check oil and make sure that it is filled to full and make sure the color is good (not dark/black)....unfortunately lifters are pretty expensive new...but before you go replacing them know that this is pretty common...have a mechanic make sure though...as far as the oil in the spark plug ports.....that would be your valve cover gasket......easy fix.....50 bucks tops if you do it yourself.....which I highly recommend considering the ease of the job. Also check the spark plugs....chances are due to the oil you've had a couple misfires depending on bad your oil is leaking and they may be damaged....if so replace them
