Question about 2003 Ford Focus

Open Question

I have a Ford Focus TDCI 2003. 88 thousand miles on the clock. It has started to judder when I put teh foot down, almost when the turbo woudl normally kick in. Judders when going up inclines too. Noticed today at around 40mph I had a puff of smoke when I changed gear and out the foot down. Recently had cam belt changed. Any thoughts. I thought could be the turbo on its way out or the speed sensor.

It may either be the PCV Valve or a vacuum hose leak. My problem was the vacuum hose. You will have to know if you have a 1.8 or a 1.9 engine when you order the PCV valve. It is a really cheap part ($2 or so).

Hello
The Engine and Automatic Transmission (not applicable to manual transmissions) in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM and TCM (Power Train Control Module, Transmission Control Module). When a problem like this or other drive-ability related problems occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. Also always check fuel pressure for correct spec for your make and engine type.

the liklihood isnt hi, most tdci engines are very reliable, as for the intercooler packing up i dont see that happening with normal use, blow by would be the only thing that would really worry you but a car this young wouldnt have issues. i think that you would be happy with the car and if you keep the services up like the previous owner the car will show you no problems :)
