You will have to check and see if there is a poor connection down on the transmission tail shaft or transfer case tail shaft. checking for broken or corroded wiring. the other thing is a bit more expensive you will have to replace your IPC (Instument Panel Cluster)

2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 LS, Speedometer dial

The motor behind the gauge is wearing out, very common on silverado instrument clusters for this to happen.

I can rebuild the gauge so it doesn't happen again, check my site out here www.DrSpeedometer.com

Gas gage gose all over when i start it then just moves like a tack?

This is a very common problem on all GM trucks and cars. Try to find a good cleaner like the tko 1000. it works 50% of the time. If that does not work you will need to check the level sensor. Disconnect the plug (this is the main plug you will set codes) The plug if I remember right is on the transmission cross support it's grey in colour then turn the key on if the gauge stays still at full or empty you need the level sensor. they are about $120 canadian. You have to remove the gas tank to change it
