I had the same problem ..., I guarantee that it is a broken piece on the tension spring that works in conjunction with your brake interlock system... Just put a screw where the plastic broke and re attach the spring .... Took me about 15 min and saves $$$$$ rate me please

Dodge magnum will not shift from Park. We have found the pink button that is next to the gear shift, but this does not release it. We found 2nd pink button which releases it from park, but have to push...

Replace the brake switch. This is what releases the shifter. It is probably multi wire. Located half way up the brake pedal arm. easy to replace.

My 2005 dodge magnum will not come out of park

I was having the same problem with my Firebird. make sure the brake pedal is fully compressed when trying to shift gears. if it still will not budge it may be caused by the transmission lock, which is an anti-theft mechanism. the solenoid in the mechanism may not be functioning correctly. when i had this problem i just removed the lock from the transmission.

I have a 2005 dodge magnum sxt that will not shift from park.it's lock in the park position.how do I fix this problem.

If this vehicle was equiped with the brake safety system, you have to have the brake depressed to change gears, then you will need to start by looking to see if somehow the brake sensor came loose. I assume this has a console shifter, remove enough of the console that you can visually see if the actuator is actually moving up when you pull the shift release in to move the shifter. If this is working and there is nothing under the vehicle in teh way of the shifting arm the transmission needs to be serviced.

Gear shift stuck in park

There should be a little switch under the gear stick in your car.If you can turn that switch to a position where it will not functioning that will fix your problem.

Dodge magnum gear shift

I had the same problem. The interlock was not the problem. I had the shifter replaced (at my own expense because drive train warranty would not cover). After examining the old shifter discovered source of problem is a plastic cam on the front of ths shifter. A tiny PLASTIC ear which connects to a small spring had broken off. I repaired this by putting in a small screw where the ear had been. Incidentally, my tow truck driver had also seen the same problem on several Chrysler 300s. In my estimation this is a poor design on Chrysler's part.
