How do I replace the water pump on a 2006 buick lucerne cx 3.8 v6

first take hose off, or drain from drain plug. antifreeze is what you are draining. Then get a 15 mm rachett and socket and pry tension pully back so you can remove belt. unbolt water pump and take off. Once off clean engine block with razor blade,or something to get old gasket off. put a thin layer of rtv blue permatex on new water pump. Now put new gasket on new water pump on top of the permatex . let dry and set up, this will keep the gasket from moving around when putting back on. follow the process backwards and should b 30 min job . GOOD LUCK YOU CAN DO THIS FOR SURE. ONE OF THE EASIER ONES.........................

you want to use the gasket and you use the permatex stuff that is made for water pumps, it says it on the label. so you will want to use both. Did it with mine works great. i put a lite bead all the way around both sides of the gasket worked great. don't use too much permatex.
Let me know if you need any other assistance.
Thanks,

Changed water pump on 91 toyota pickup. v6 3.0 litre. did not use gasket, used permatex right stuff. in shop manual, and online, i found that the gasket is only for the 4 cylinder. finished everything, and...

Yes some threads are tapped into water jackets, you can easily tell this by the condition of the threads on the pump bolts removed. Are you sure it's leaking at the pump and not around a thread boss itself? If you couldn't find a gasket, you could of made one, which i would of done---this engine has a cast iron block with alumn. cylinder heads. What kind of permatex did you use? If you use ONLY silicone and over-tighten---poof--it's gone, nothing there.

I wanna know how to change waterpump

Remove drive belt. Remove all coolant, remove hoses to water pump, Remove all screws from water pump, remove gasket from hard surface, use permatex gasket sealer on both sides of waterpump gasket and apply to engine side, then waterpump, hold water pump in place until all water pump nuts screws are installed, use torque wrench, no more the 10 ft lbs. The rest is the reverse of uninstallation.

How to install water pump tips

first drain radiator, then remove belts and anything else that would be in your way. Alternator , hoses,ect.... Once you have removed the old water pump make sure you scrape all the old seal from the engine block or the new pump will leak. once all the old gasket is scraped, ready the new pump by putting blue silicone (permatex) on the new gasket, both sides then put it back together. Good luck

Water pump is leaking

If its leaking from a mount bolt then your gasket went bad.....get a new gasket and some permatex

However if it looks like it is leaking from the pully its self then it is leaking from the weap hole, when this happens it is because the seal arround the berrings has gone bad. You have to get a new water pump

Water pump still leaks 92 cadillac deville

yes always use gasket sealer on both sides of the gasket. and make sure the old gasket is completely removed but do not use a chisel ar anything as you will leave gouges in the metal and cause a leak. Best to clean it is with some sand paper and just take your time. And just a thougtht but all i use is the black gasket sealer. It seems to wwork the best.
