The head gasket is always the gasket between the head (cylinder) and the main block of the motor.. This requires a lot of labor to replace. The intake must be removed, then the cylinder head itself. This is a major repair if the head gasket needs to be replaced. I would take the car to someone you trust to verify that it is in fact a head gasket problem. Without knowing what has brought you to the point of asking about the head gasket, I dont know what more to tell you.

The head gasket (in your case gaskets) is located on the top of the engine block under the engine cylinder head which is under the Camshaft cover which is the very top of the engine. This car is a V8 engine so it has 2 heads and 2 head gaskets, one on each side of the engine. It is a very expensive job to replace head gaskets.

Water and oil mixes together

Check oil by draining. Trans tank on radiator bottom may be oily slick you see if oil pan drained clean. Then trans is probably contaminated with antifreeze and that's what is mixing.

Crack in head passages could link oil and water, if you verify antifreeze and oil mixed in oil pan.

Put coolant in and strts tripping in back of engine even if car is cold

Possible leaking expansion plug in the rear water jacket or maybe a warped cylinder head or blown head gasket. Lights and mirrors will help track it down. Might get expensive to repair if it's the head or it's gasket. Hope this helps!

I can't disconnect the rearview mirror from the metal base on a 1994 Grand Marquis.

There is a set screw of some sort that you must loosen. Normally it is a hex head screw.
