What would happen if I accidentally put transmission oil in the engine?

How much transmission fluid did you add? In the old days adding a quart of tranny fluid to the engine oil was used to loosen valve springs etc...only running a day or 2 then draining completely..and refilling with quality engine oil...If you only added a quart...you need to drain all the oil as if doing a regular oil change...do change the filter too...you should be just fine...don't put this off.

I accidentally put automatic transmission fluid in the engine instead of engine oil. I have started the car, its a landrover freelander 1. Is it going to damage the engine and how do I drain it?

I'd drain it from the oil pan underneath the car. Fill it back up with engine oil and a can of Seafoam, drive it around for a day or 2 then drain it again. Replace the filter each time also. Think you'll be alright if you didn't do heavy driving with it in your engine.

I have a 1992 Bounder Fleetwood Motorhome with the Chevy 454 engine. I changed the oil and filter, but I am not sure how much oil to put back in. I'very added over 10 quarts of oil and it does not register...

Can you measure how much was drained by filling gallon or quart jugs? Most of these units have oversized oil pan to allow for extra oil. At ten quarts you should be seeing it on the dipstick. I don't believe that it will hold more than twelve quarts.

By not having enough oil in the car, would that create a popping sound? Have a 2001 Grand Cherokee Laredo that was working fine and the next morning it started popping. Put it had one quart in and put 2...

If I understand your situation, you are saying the engine was run with one quart and you added 2 more quarts of oil. Now you have 3 quarts which is less than what it takes to make it full. On some engines it takes 5 quarts of oil. You will have to check the dipstick to see where you are now compared to the full mark.

If it is still less than full, it may cause some noise, but depending on how long you ran it with the oil low, how hot it got and other unknowns, you may have a serious problem. Try adding oil to the fill mark and pray that after you run it awhile the noise will go away. The noise may be the lifters trying to work with little or no pressure. It is possible that after the oil top off and a bit of driving they may pressure up and start working again.

I have a 1987 pointiac Fiero. It has the 2.5L 4

if you've added the oil and started the car and the oil level is at the add mark with the engine off, allowing a minute or so for the oil to drain back down to the oil pan, add 1 more quart

2007 rabbit - oil light

If it was still running okay & no noise, probably no engine damage. Adding 2 quarts should have turned off the light if the problem was oil pressure. Sounds like the oil pressure sending unit may be bad.

Wrong Transmission oil

you dont need a complete oil change.
the other oil will also lubricate, so the oil you have put on, is as good as the oil who was there before
