Question about 2005 Chevrolet Aveo

1 Answer

I recently had my 2005 Chev Aveo LS have ther thermostat housing blow up and replaced at the Chev Dealership. At the time I smelt rubber burning but figured the thermostate housing replacing would solve??? I've had the car back in 2 times to locate the rubber smell inside and outside the after driving locally and dealership said it was a lose clamp on thermostat and tightened it???? I STILL smell rubber smell inside and outside of car especially when using the A/C? The thermostate gauge stays in the middle at normal, I am so disgusted in this runaround from dealership??? What is causing this rubber burning smell, I don't see any leakage??? I'm a career gal and bought my car new now has 63K miles and I've kept excellent maintenance. Help, before I take back to dealership again for rubber burning smell, I would like to sound like I know where to tell them to look?????? Thanks Marlena

Hello
make sure that they check all of rubber materials that could be burning which is a number of things, The ac belt could be slipping and getting hot, other hoses could be burning on the exhaust, sound insulation or under coating on the bottom of the car. they need to do just a good thourough inspection, even raise the car up on the lift to make sure nothing is bent, broke, rubbing or missing. The loose hose clamp is not going to smell like burnt rubber, maybe antifreeze but not rubber simply tell them you would like these things checked out they should do that for you
Good luck
Chris

Can you change the thermostat only or is the housing and thermostat togather and replaced togather?

Anyway, you will need the spare part. Look for thermostat only, if it is sold w/o housing, it can be replaced separately. Also, look whether your housing allows disassembling.

The thermostat housing separated, or blew apart would be a better way of putting it. Im sure it needs a new housing but I cant figure out how to put a new thermostat into the new housing. This is a 2005...

This is a notorious Aveo problem, These are poorly made. You need a new thermostat housing it includes the thermost on the 04-05' Aveo. It is all one sealed part from the factory. The original part is made of plastic. Chevy has an aluminum one now that won't break but it's MSRP price from the dealer is $91.78 got one and put it on my mothers car works fine now. So you can't just put a new thermostat in it you need the whole housing which already has the thermo. in it.

I also had the same problem, But the problem lies in the switch the actual hold switch on my aveo there is a side entry way you can pop off the one on the left will give you access to the switch. what could of happen is theres is condensation in inside the switch. then when it gets cold it freezes causing the switch to malfunction. This could happen either by spilling something on the switch or using a cleaning solvent like armorall, YOU MUST BE CAREFULL WITH ANYTHING LIQUID NEAR THE HOLD SWITCH. Also the car going from warm when you drive then cold when you park it at night. My car was in warranty and remind you I came up with is the dealership had no idea what was wrong. they reseted the computer it worked for a week then was happening again. I have knoweldge in switches/wiring so i decided to check pot the switch and open it up and sure enough there was condensation took it to dealer told them to try a new switch works perfect and going on 5 months with out problems. Replacing the switch can solve pretty much every problem that is stated here i think. Also take a look at the wiring and connections for older aveos

2005 Chevy Aveo LS Dashboard lights won't come on

The problems stated above seem to be caused by SP101 (specifically contact #1) being burned and contact 3 (dash lights), and contacts 2, 4, & 5 not receiving power. SP101 is located inside the fuse box under the hood. It is a white, 20 pin connector that splices wires internally. Either replace the connector and the purple/white wire, or solder/splice the wires together and solder or crimp. I don't know if the dealer sells the splice, I'm looking into that because I need it. I don't know why this splice malfunctions and the left side (identical) doesn't. Unfortunately, this is common in the Aveo and the dealer mechanics seem to be totally clueless!
