I understand it must be programmed. so, if it is rebuilt by someone like GoECM.com does it need to be reprogrammed? and again, which control module do I replace? Thanks for the help

  • ricarm Mar 28, 2011

OK you are right, no one rebuilds the BCM. I need more direction on which control module is the ECM and which is the BCM. I have one control module mounted on the side of the kick wall, passenger side with part number LNB1410AC/101 and one control mounted under the dash/glove compartment with part number LHE2400AJ/004. Which one is the BCM?

    Thanks

Your description is perfect. That's what is not working reliably. Where is this unit? I can see two units easily one hanging below the glove compartment ( I think this is the transmission unit) and one on the side wall. Where is the BCM?

Hi, when the transmission spontaneously jumps out of gear while the car is in motion and the gear shift lever moves to neutral, it may indicate a bad shifter assembly or a worn clutch pilot bearing. Other problems that may cause the transmission to jump out of gear include an excessive amount of play in the countershaft and output shaft assemblies, excessive wear to the shift fork assembly or shift rails and worn synchronizer springs and inserts.

I don't think you have a problem with the body control unit as claimed your the mechanic, since you say the light was flashing before power drops out to the mph gauge and tach (they drop to zero), the you need to first of all scan your car ECM by taking it to any auto zone around you, a code will be retrieved from the car which will be interpreted to know the exact cause of the problem....

OK the ECM/PCM has a huge connector, 120 wires, the BCM has a smaller approx 40 wire connector.

And the company says it can rebuild the BCM??? you are sure of this, you have called them?? ECM re-builders rebuild the electronic control unit that runs the engine transmission and emission system, the BCM is a whole different thing.

The BCM (Body Control Module) controls body functions **** as the power windows, windshield wipers, power door locks, security system and other body related power operated devices, PCM/ECM (1996 use a PCM short for Powertrain Control Module)) controls the electronics of the fuel injection system on the engine, the emission control systems and the shifting of the transmission via electric solenoids that open and close hydraulic pressure pathways..

I really think you should consult a Jag dealer before you spend all the money and most likely don't fix the car.

code p1105 refers to manifold absolute pressure(MAP) sensor, TC system-leak detected. causes ---intake leak, ---hoses There are to references to p1105 The second response is still map sensor but the causes are---TC system--mechanical fault--air leak between throttle body-TC,map sensor---TC system--exhaust blockage
code p1260 refers to throttle return spring--weak spring force. causes ---mechanical fault,--,throttle control unit
code p1264 refers to throttle valve opening-accelerator released causes ---throttle control unit---mechanical fault

Body control module\

So the mechanic did all the necessary testing ?

If not then is is only a guess, you change nothing

Common Sense

The idle is not controlled by the body module
as the name implies
Body is windows,sun roof,air conditioning,fan control
radio etc not the motor

Great advice--- right?

Limp mode why

Need more information to provide possible solutions. Jag is known for having multiple ECM's (Electronic Control Modules), it's what many will refer to as the computer control unit. It's a nice feature as most cars produced have a single unit that monitors and controls everything. The Jag's on the other hand have multiple dedicated units that monitor independent components. In a nutshell the car has received a signal from one of the units that is indicating a significant fault in one of the engine component systems and the ECU has put the car into limp mode to allow you to get it off the road if necessary but limit potential damage to the motor by continuing at full running capacity. It could be a variety of things ranging from low oil pressure to a transmission problem. Are you getting any other messages on the screen?

High rpm at idle: code P1294 target idle not reached

Hi Rodrigo, The idle control is activated by the temperature sender unit. It sounds as though yours is giving a cold signal to the computer and it pushes up the idle speed to compensate as if it has just started. The sender unit is a different unit from that which operates the gauge on the dash instrument panel. Replace it and I believe your problems will be over.Regards John

I had the same problem on my 1998 XJ8. My dealer told me it was the Mass Airflow Meter, which needed replacing to the tune of around $500. After a second opinion at my local Jag mechanic, it turned out to be a hose that was broken on the lower part of the front of the engine. Check the vacuum hoses for breaks or loose fittings.

I took my Issuzu Tropper 2000 to the mechanic for repair, because the check engine came. I was told by the mechanic that the problem is coming from a bad body throtle part and need to be change. He told me...

you should be able to get a complete throtle body at a salvage yard. did your mechanic say what part of your throtle body is bad. you should get a second opinion.
