Question about 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis

1 Answer

I have a 1994 Mercury Grand Marquis. On 2 consecutive days I have had problems starting the vehicle. Turn the key and just get a "clicking" sound under the hood. The sound seems to be coming from the center of the top of the engine, looks like where the air intake is. After 3 or 4 attempts to start and letting it sit for 15-20 minutes or so it has started. Took it to a dealership and they could not replicate the problem. Wayne

That is what I thought but the dealership wouldn't comment. ??

Where is the starter solenoid/starter located in relation to where I said the clicking noise was coming from? Thanks.

It should be on your fender well...follow the red wire from the battery to the solenoid and tap on it while trying to start. You can also cross the battery lead to the wire that leads to the starter to see if it is the solenoid.
If on your model it happens to be on the starter, take it off and take to an autoparts store and have tested. On these kind there is a trigger wire that gets corroded and can be causing the problem, but if you are hearing the clacking it sounds like you have one on the fender well

My 2003 Grand Marquis just clicks when I try to start it and won't start.

Possibly needs a battery. Have the battery tested by an auto parts store. If battery tests good then problem is most likely the starter.

2007 mercury grand marquis, has auto remote start. car started normally with key, then when i pushed brake pedal car stalled. now car will not turn over or start back up. when i turn on ignition nothing...

What brand is the remote start, and is it new to the vehicle or has it been on and working properly for a while?

Most remote starts have a feature that will shut the vehicle off when the brake is applied after the vehicle was started with the remote and the key has not been used to turn the ignition. However this is not what happened in your case. Some remote starts have an on/off switch that is installed under the dash, depending on brand and installation. If you have that switch, turn it off. If this does not correct the problem, locate the power with for the remote start and disconnect it. If this still doesn't correct the problem then is sounds like it has caused other electrical issues.
