Question about Kia Optima

2 Answers

I took my car to a auto repair shop and he says my flywheel is bad. He said it is located on the front of the engine. And the price he gave me to get a used one was around 600 or new was 1300. Is this true? Does it usually cost that much to fix this?

I dont know what year your vehicle is or the engine size. some of the flywheels for the standard trans models cost up to 700-800 bucks easy. and thats aftermarket. then you have to remove the trans. to replace it. get a written estimate and compare with another shop

Not a solution but advice, go to a few other mechanics and price one at a junk yard....
It shouldn't cost that much (depending where you live)

Hope I helped you satisfactorily

Car starts but when i give gas it dies on me

your engine's starving for fuel. your fuel pump may be bad. if your engine starts ok and it only idles fine, the fuel pump pressure may not be correct. the fuel pump pressure should be around 180lbs to the motor.a bad fuel pump can either quit pumping,or it may only pump just enough to start the engine, but not produce enough fuel to run it down the road.the fuel pumps located inside the gas tank under the car. most shops guage the price of removal and replacement of the fuel pump on how much fuels in the gas tank, the more fuel, the heavier the gas tank. a full gas tank can be super heavy and hard to handle under the vehicle. suggest that you call around local shops for a price of replacement fuel pump.also call local parts places such as auto zone or advance auto parts for prices of the fuel pump, that way you can guage the price of the pump against the labor the shops charge you. hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com

Had the auto- trans rebuilt in my 01 626 4 cyl. mazda, now it has a bad vibration no one can find the problem, I'm thinking tourqe convert. but I have never removed a front wheel drive trans. Need info on...

Having years ago, owned a trans repair business,I will tell
you, that you don't want to consider removing any trans axle
in your driveway. You need a lift

I would go to a trans only repair shop and get involved
I my shop we took the customer into the shop and educated
them and were honest. So,make sure your in there and involved
and they can prove what your issues are.
They love rebuilding them, that is what they do
You need a solution to your issues

I would suspect engine misfires etc, motor and transaxle mounts,
bad drive axle joints

Riding rough what do i change with these codes po171, po174, po300

171 and 174 are lean mixture codes, 300 is a random misfire (any cylinder). Check for a vacuum leak, listen for a hissing noise with engine idling.

I had a bad vibration whenever i would apply the brakes so i thought it was the front rotors. well i took it to a repair shop and they told me the rear drums and shoes needed replaced and also the front...

That sounds high to me but this is the kind of thing that dose not have to go to a dealer. Shop around for a better price. Check with independent brake and muffler shops. Do this by just calling them and asking what it would cost to have the following work done; front rotors machined, new front pads, rear drums and rear brakes. To be on the safe side also ask about the price to replace the front rotors as sometimes you have to replace them too if they are too far gone’ worn, gouged or warped. Make sure you are comparing the same work at each shop and also get information about the warranty (many places offer life time parts but may gouge your on labor when you come back). Once you have the shops rated by price and warranty go the one of your choice and have them give you a brake inspection and tell you want needs to be done. You don't want to be the one telling them what needs to be done unless you are 100% sure of the needed work. If there are big differences in prices for the work on the front and the back between shops you can have one shop do the front and the other do the rear brakes Depends how much effort you want to invest in gathering prices. Just be sure the shop tells you want needs to be done. By the way, the vibration that was your original problem is most likely warped front brake rotors.

I NEED TO LOCATE THE WATER PUMP ON MY 1990 FORD PROBE

facing the front of the car, the water pump is located on the left side of the engine( the front of the engine) under the timing chain cover. You will need a shop manual and plenty of auto repair savy to fix yourself. good luck

THUMPING SOUND WHEN I LET OFF GAS HOW DO I REPLACE MOTOR MOUNTS

The diagnosis sounds OK but if you have no experience with auto repair, I recommend you invest in an after-market service book for your car.
Haynes has it on line for $25 but you should be able to buy it locally from any chain auto parts store.
You can see it here:
Deville repair manual
It will pay for itself many times over and even if you don't DIY, it can help you determine if the repair shop is asking a reasonable price for a repair.

1984 cadillac eldorado flywheel repair

Yes obviously they will need to lift the motor because the flywheel is smack-dab in between the torque converte and motor, could actually do it yourself with the right tools ( Engine hoist, air compressor , air tools, and sockets, and or course torque wrenches to properly mount the flywheel back to manufacturer specs) but I do believe 3 Grand is way higher then your average shop. Look for shops with Mexicans they have O.K. service for a good price. Reasonable price is in between $700 and $1200 GOOD LUCK!!
