Question about 2005 BMW X5

1 Answer

Hi there, I have 2004 BMW x5 4.4 and my problem is when it's wet or cold outside and I start the car in the morning it is working sluggish and my check engine light starts flickering, sometimes stays on, sometimes light turns off. When I take it to mechanic diagnostics show misfire on 4, 5, sometimes 7 cylinders and every time they are different ones. We changed all spark plugs, radiator thermometer, air intake control sensor and still nothing. My mechanic is suspecting that it could me the other thermostat that is attached to engine. We also suspected to be coils but usually when they go it is only one or two, not five or seven at once. Would you have any idea what could be wrong here? Thank you in advance. Nick K.

Hey man, your proble is intermidiate levers. Depending on the milage of your car U may need to replace the rockers and lifters and eccentric shafts. It is a big and very pricy job. Done many of those. You R looking at about $5000 bill at the dealership. If U go to an aftermarket shop it will be cheaper but make sure they know what they r doing. Sounds like your guy does not. Anyway, special tools are needed because u need to retime the engine after repair. Hope this helps and sorry to ruin your day. Take care.

Sluggish ignition start

I think your mistaken. Your battery will lose cranking power as the temp drops. Warm battery may work just fine, untill it gets below freezing temps then the cranking amps are so low its sluggish. Buy a high cranking amp battery and you will be good as gold mate!

My oil indicator symbol is lit but my oil level is OK,but it felt sluggish as well 2003 BMW 325i I have also had the oil can 'orange' symbol come on for about 6 seconds on a number of occasions recently

Hi dennis,

It sounds like you have a malfunctioning oil level sensor. Even with the oil level correct, if the oil warning indicator comes on after starting, the sensor is reading incorrectly. I would recommend replacing the sensor with your next oil service. As far as the sluggishness, the sensor operation will not affect that. I suspect that is a different issue.

My 2004 Hyundai Sonata will not turn over after being outside all day at work (it is cold). The car tries to start, but it sounds sluggish. I tried jumping the car, but it didn't help at all. I have had...

it may be a weak battery if when jumping it the engine didnt spin fast, but i belive the first time the battery was weak and trying to start may have flooded it with the cold weather, have the battery tested and replace it if not good then try holding the gas pedal down to floor like the older cars and hold it until motor gets going then slowly let up as rpms rise, you may have to crank a while.

When cold in mornings when back up then shift into

Every car needs a heating engine time specially when its cold, I recomend like about 5 to 10 minutes after you start engine and before you change from P to D. If you try to start the engine first time in the morning, it's cold outside and you immediately go on run you are going to have this trouble every time. Every engine has it's operational standard temperature a 5 to 10 minutes working engine, car stopped, may guaranty this standard temperature and optimal function conditions, and also keeps a longer life of your car.

Good luck

2004 Saturn Ion wont start from time to time when it is cold outside.. Like this morning my daughter went outside and the car started right up with the temp outside 7 degrees. She warmed it up for awhile...

LOL repeating questions. Its your ignition switch. its a common problem with ions ( I myself have a 04 ion and had it replaced twice in 3 years) repair is around 400 dollars with labor. Just google "ion not starting in cold weather" and youll get TONS of threads. No recall either its stupid
