I just installed the spare tire on my 2002 jeep cherokee, i was wondering if it uses the same lug nuts as the original tire

if the lugs are a closed top lug, they may not tighten down enough to secure the spare. if they are the open top/hollow lugs they should be able to tighten down the spare tire rim. so, if you have the closed top style you may want to get a set that are the open top or hollow style so you are able to tighten down a spare rim when needed. this is what i did when i ran into this issue with my 99 grand cherokee.

Does the jeep pick up the pressure on the spare tire even though it is not on the vehicle? all the tires on my jeep have good pressure but I still have this spare low pressure warning.

Same problem here..." spare low pressure warning."
Even after put putting correct air in spare...warning goes away but then comes back after several months.

Let me know if/when you or anyone else finds a solution.

Thanks

How do I change tire on 2006 jeep

The owner manual will tell you the jack location and the jacking points. Loosen the lugnuts half a turn before you jack it up. Jack it up and remove the nuts. Put on the spare, and reinstall the nuts and run them down. Lower the car and tighten the nuts as tight as you can get them. Then drive the car to a tire shop. The spare is a temporary spare.

Display showing spare low pressure, what does this mean ?

That means the air pressure in your spare tire is low. Check your owners manual for the location of the spare tire and add some air to in it. Or, have a shop add air to it.

Spare tire tools

From the owner's manual for that model, see link below also, page 299 of the PDF has a nice picture.

Spare Tire Removal
Fit the jack handle extension over the drive nut. Use the
Lug Wrench to rotate the nut counter clockwise until the
spare is on the ground with enough slack in the cable to
allow to pull the tire out from under the vehicle.
CAUTION!
The winch mechanism is designed for use with the
jack extension tube only. Use of an air wrench or
other power tools is not recommended and can
damage the winch.
When the spare is clear, tilt the retainer at the end of the
cable and pull it through the center of the wheel.
