Question about 2002 Honda Odyssey

1 Answer

I have a Honda Odyssey 2002 EXL, I got the code P 1457, what I'm thinking about is that couple of times I have overfilled the tank, so the check engine light came and went off, and couple weeks ago the engine check light is steady and whenever I turn the car on I get a message says "maintenance request"

DTC P1457 - EVAP Emission Control System Leak Detected (Control Canister System)

Scan tool indicates Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P1457: Evaporative Emission (EVAP) control system leak detected (EVAP control canister system).

    Possible Cause:
    Fuel fill cap
    Vacuum Connections
    Fuel Tank
EVAP Control Canister Vent Shut Valve
EVAP Control Canister Vent Shut Valve Circuit
    EVAP Purge Control Solenoid Valve
EVAP Purge Control Solenoid Valve Circuit
    EVAP Bypass Solenoid Valve
    EVAP Bypass Solenoid Valve Circuit
    Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor
    Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor Circuit
    EVAP Control Canister
    ORVR vent shut valve
    ORVR vapor recirculation valve
    Throttle Body

I just figured out what was causing this code on my car yesterday. It turned out to be the canister vent shut valve. It is located on the charcoal canister just behind the gas tank. The valve is screwed to the canister with two screws(on the passenger side). You can remove it and test it for a leak

Also, could visit your dealer and ask about this TSB:

    Bulletin Number: 604

    Bulletin Date: 20040616

Hope this helps; keep us updated.

I get a code P0741 for 05 Odyssey EXL (96k miles). Is it safe to drive with this code? Doesn't seem like it's driving any different. Thought was the gas cap when C.E.L came on, but had run on...

The error is means there is an issue with the torque converter on the transmission. It may be stuck. It is safe to drive it but there may be issues with the milage.
