Question about 2005 Ford Escape
I have a key stuck in the ignition switch. Car operates as usual but when you put in park and turn switch off,you can not remove the switch. I was told there was a reset button to release the key, but I looked in the manual an could not find the location. Might be looking in in wrong place. Have you had a problem such as this. At first the car would not shift in gear. Used Brake pedal as required but took quite a while before it did. You could remove the key then but then the key in the ignition problem started. That was three days ago. We still drive it but can not remove the key. Just removed the remove the remote and lock key in it. Lucky far us we have a garage but when we go some where we yake a chance on it being stolen. Can you help?
There is an electric solenoid that locks and unlocks the ignition when the brake pedal is depressed, this is a safety feature required by law. When this happens have someone check and see if the brake lights are working, if they are then the solenoid is sticking, it is bolted to the top of the steering column, to replace it you need to unbolt and drop the column down.
