Hello,
When was the last time you have had a transmission fluid flush and a new transmission filter put on? This can cause a lot of headache. I have seen vehicles not shift at all because of this. Filter every 75,000 miles and fluid every 50,000 miles. Dodge 4x4 are notorious for transmission problems of all kinds. Some have to have them rebuilt 3 times before 150,000 miles. Often bad sensor outputs are a the issue with this type of situation. A bad sensor can not read the speed and load of the vehicle nor the shift points. This in turn effects the transmission computer. I would start with the fluid and filter change. Then I would replace the transmission output speed sensor. Are you getting any codes? The output speed sensor is the sensor sticking out of the transmission with the connector on it. (there is only one sensor sticking out of your transmission. If you see one, that's it.) Remove the connector and remove the sensor with a bolt ( carefully don't snap the plastic. Then put the new one in.

Remove the sensor with a *wrench* that is. You may have a little transmission fluid come out of that hole. So have some cardboard down so you don't stain the cement. Not much should come out if it is not overfilled though. Make sure to check transmission fluid level when finished.

Most definitely it can. Old fluid will cease to lubricate the gears in the transmission properly and they will get very hot and combine that with a clogged filter which will inhibit fluid from passing and it can become to very hot. If neither have been done this is definitely the first thing to addresses. If that sensor is forcing your transmission to go into overdrive at a time that it is not suppose to it can put terrible stress on them gears and with the increased friction make the transmission very hot.

    Regards,

    Tony

TRANSMISSION GET TOO HOT IF ATF FLUID LEVEL TOO HIGH, TRANSMISSION MAY BE OVERFILLED,CHECK ENGINE COOLING SYSTEM OR ENGINE COOLING FAN MALFUNCTION,, IF DRIVING IN LOW GEAR OR AGGRESSIVE DRIVE PATTERNS CAUSE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING.CHECK TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER.MAKE SURE OIL COOLER LINES AND OIL COOLER PASSAGES IN RADIATOR NOT CLOGGED OR RESTRICTED.

Hi

When the transmission overheats, the TCM shutsdown the OVERDRIVE to reduce the heat in the transmission. The first thing thing I would suggest is to check the tranny fluid level. Then have the fluid and filter changed along with a flushing. Clean out the tcc switch in it.This is the general rule for this kind of problem, if your problem still persists it's suggested to get your car checked from the auto shop.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

1999 DODG 3500 AUTO TRANS SHIFTS TO 2ND WITH A LITTLE HELP

I have a 1999 Ram B 1500 Van, auto transmission, 5.9 L engine.
Same problem, trans hesitates in 2-3 upshift, sometimes 1-2
to 2-3 upshift. Posts trouble code P1756 - Transmission Govenor pressure too low at below 15 to 20 Psi. Transmission pump shot or valve body leak stops trans from reaching proper pressure to shift, which is minimum 15 Psi.
Either trans is leaking in valve body, valve is stuck, shift solenoid on valve body is sticking, or pump is shot.
