Question about 1993 Dodge Dakota
Take off the door pannel , "making sure that the window is up be for you try to start this" and then youll need a pair of channel lock pliers remove the door opening levers if in the way .... there shoud be a BIG nut that is on the back of the door handle remove that with the pliers. tip the handel out take off the lock lever , and change them and revers of the directions to take it off

It sounds like a broken wire inside the weather boot between the door and the body. The wire is touching together and is making contact when the door is in the open position, and the wire is separating when the door is closed and then it is loosing the connection.
You will need to repair the wires inside the weather boot between the drivers side door and the body, and the wire should also be soldered to make the connection solid and long lasting.
