Question about 2004 Pontiac Grand Am
GM Oil Life System Resetting - Resetting Procedure
When the system has calculated that oil life has been diminished, it will indicate that an oil change is necessary. A CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message will come on. Change the engine oil as soon as possible within the next 600 miles (1000 km). It is possible that, if driving under the best conditions, the oil life may not indicate that an oil change is necessary for over a year. However, the engine oil and filter must be changed at least once a year and at this time the system must be reset.
If the system is ever reset accidentally, change the engine oil at 3000 miles (5000 km) since last oil change.
To reset the Engine Oil Life System, do the following:
1. Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
2. Slowly fully press and release the accelerator pedal 3 times within 5 seconds.
The reset is complete when the chimes sound and the CHANGE OIL lamp goes out. If the lamp stays on and no chime is heard, repeat the reset procedure.
3. Turn the key to OFF.
If the CHANGE OIL lamp comes back on when the vehicle is started, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.
Other ways comment about on the driver side of the car theres a fuse panel on the side of the dash when you open the door. There should be a reset button inside there, if there is turn the key to the run postion push the button toill the oil change light starts flashing. After a few seconds there should be 3-5 beeps and the light should go out. If that buttons not there then turn the key to the run postion still and pump the gass to the floor three times. leave the key on till the light flashes and you the beepeing sound and the light should go out. If in doubt check your owners manual aswell it tells you how to reset it there to: www.gm.com/gmownercenter/gm ( 1993-current models. Must have a Yahoo ID to log in ).
