Is the MAF code still there? More MAF codes than you had before? If it is running that bad, it should be setting a code for SOMETHING! If you cleaned the MAF, it is probably destroyed. GM MAFs don't like getting cleaned. Another thing to look for if you have the Northstar Engine is the ground cable that goes from the right (Passenger side) fender to the alternator bracket. These like to break and can cause all kinds of starting/running problems and multiple codes. Whenever I have a Northstar engine that is running really bad or failing to crank, I always check this first.

I have 2000 cadillac deville and its overheating

P0741 - Torque converter clutch slip speed is exceeding limit; P1258 - High engine metal temperature. Sounds like you have transmission problems - torque converter problems can cause engine overloading, which in turn can cause the overheating. I would start with a complete transmission check before the engine is seriously damage the engine.

What could cause my 2000 cadillac deville to run 2600rpm at error lights on/or codes

You may have a torque converter not locking. At low engine load conditions at hwy speeds to save gas the engine computer will tell the trans to lock the converter which results in lower rpm. Either the TCC solenoid is not locking the converter, or the PCM has failed and not sending signal to the TCC solenoid. If this has been going on over a week, im willing to bet the PCM has failed, otherwise a good one should catch the TCC if its not working and should throw a code.

Its my best guess with no tools to know for sure. Good luck :)

Sounds like a failing pump in the transmission or a torque converter problem. Check for any error codes (DTCs) using a code checker to see what is setting the warning. Next stop is probably a transmission shop.

My 2000 cadillac deville will not shift into overdrive. throws no codes. what could be wrong? thanks for your time.

Is it not shifting into overdrive or is the (TCC) torque convertor clutch not coming on? If it is and O/D concern it could be a cracked shift solenoid, this will not set a code because the PCM only monitors electrical failures with solenoids. If it is a TCC concern the PCM should set a code related to a comparison between vehicle speed and engine RPM. Should. You need to have somebody access the on-board diagnostic program to diagnose the problem.

How do I reset service engine light on 1999 cadillac deville

1996 on up OBD II systems require a scanner with the 'clear code' feature to reset the SES light.

Otherwise, one can cycle starting and stopping the engine 30 or 40 times to clear the SES light. This is not recommended, though, as it takes a long time.

Code p0741

Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Stuck Off.

You may have a faulty TCC solenoid valve.

Simply means the clutch in the torque converter does not engage when you reach cruising speed and will effect overall fuel economy.
Requires workshop/dealer repair.
