2003 f250 6.0diesel will not start has fuel at fuel filterwill try to run on starting fluidwith interminent spray

fuel at fuel filter doesnt mean its getting the correct pressure to operate the injectors. do not spray starting fluid into a diesel motor, you will damage the rings, score cylinder walls, burn valve guides... etc . starting fluid is not designed for diesel engines. the only way to test the fuel system is to test it by hooking up a pressure test gauge to the service port. the next most likely issue would be a faulty glow plug relay or 1 or 2 faulty glow plugs.

I have an 1996 f250 powerstroke and it is running rough.

The most common problem is a bad fuel injector but if you haven't already done so--check to make sure your oil level is all the way up to full.Power Strokes use a high pressure oil pump to operate their injectors and if your oil is at a low level it can cause air pockets in the lines going to the injectors. It's not a real common problem but I 've seen it happen maybe 10 times.Another cause is using the wrong kind of oil. Some oils have a tendency to foam at high pressures and can produce air in those same injector supply lines. Good luck!

It does not start at all

Has to crank with energy, clean the terminals and jump start check the spark on plugs, check i gas gets to the injectors, try to spray air cleaner hole with starting fluid,if truck starts and runs for 2 to 3 seconds, you have a fuel pump problem or a bad fuel filter, if truck does not start with starting fluid than You my have a timing problem or ignition coil, key, but the motor has to turn fast enough

1997 Ford F 350 Turbo Deisel fuel system

Spraying starting fluid into your intake is NOT a good idea. These diesels are not like a gas motor. Check (replace) your CPS (cam positioning sensor) They fail quite often on these trucks. Ford has recently released a newer (and cheaper!) model as a recall part. They arent any better than the old ones though. These trucks also have UVC (under valve cover) harnesses that contain the wiring for the glow plugs and injectors. These also fail quite often. Usually its just a bad pin in the plug and there are pin kits for them. A scanner like an Auto Enginuity would tell you for certain whats going on though.
