Question about 1999 Chevrolet Lumina

1 Answer

On my 99 Lumina, I have 4 way flashers and parking lights that work, but I have no turn signals or brakes lights, just the center one works. Checked all fuses and relays, they are fine. Ground wires are fine or I wouldnt have 4 ways. Checked the wires and they seem to be ok. HELP!!

hi, check the connector at the bottom of the steering column. It's attached to the side of the column at about where the knee panel ends. make sure no wires are cut.

Check the turn signal switch. especially if the center brake is the only brake light that comes on when you step on the brake pedal. Sometimes wiggling the switch will get the brake lights to work momentarily.

1997 Chevrolet Lumina : upper brakelight (window) works, lower brakelights don't work. Changed bulbs and fuse-no go. Most logical theory so far is that they are on seperate circuits, the lower lights run...

Will your Center High-Mount Stop Light (CHMSL) illuminate when you depress the brake pedal, but the lower/outer lights will not?
-- Do you have to hold the signal lever in a certain spot to get the turn signals to flash?
-- Do you have to hold the signal lever in a certain spot to get the lower/outer brake lights to illuminate?
-- Will the signals work in one direction, but not the other?
If you answered yes to any of the preceeding questions, your turn signal switch is likely malfunctioning.

**One more question before we continue: Is the turn signal lever not "cancelling" (returning to the "off" position) after you make a turn? If this is the case, you have a broken "cancelling spring."

Before you begin disassembly of your steering column, verify the turn signal flasher is not malfunctioning. If your brake lights work fine, but not the signals (either direction,) then it's likely the flasher is burnt out. The flasher itself is located underneath the dash near where the steering column passes through the firewall

A flasher would not cause this problem, It's in the trun signal switch, it needs to be replaced

Turn signal doesn't blink just lights up

You should check the bulbs first. Front and rear, park, brake and turn signals. I think you will find there is either a bad bulb or possibly a faulty socket. If those are fine it may be a flasher problem. You can find the flasher by turning the signal switch to the side that works with the key on and find the clicking flasher. Good luck!!!

Turn signals

I'd say its either the flasher that needs replaced, or it could be a turn signal fuse in your fusebox, check in your fusebox to see if theres a turn signal fuse, my cars all have one, and ive had to replace them sometimes
hope this helps
