Question about Nissan Maxima

I change the idle air control valve on my 2000 nissan maxima and took it to the dealer to have it relearn and the dealer told me it would nt let them relearn the sensor so latter they told me it needed the sensor and the engine control module now the car is worst then when i took it to the dealer now i turn the car off and take the key out and the lights in the dash and radiator fan come on for like ten secons and then it all goes off please help me

Check the radiator fan relay.this relay ground is connected to ECM.It controls this you mentioned about engine control module.So it can be the problem with relay or ECm not controlling this relay, and this causes the radiator fan to come on.---------- You will find that under the hood either right by the battery there is a fuse box or by the coolant overflow bottle.Under the hood in the relay box next to battery. There are three of them. Part number 0410b2. One operates the lo speed and one operates the medium speed and the last one for high speed.--------------- Also check the radiator fan motor.The radiator fan motor is attached to the end of the fan, if you find the radiator fan, it will be bolted to the radiator fan shroud on the inside of the engine compartment, just unbolt it and disconnect the wire connectors and pull the motor out.Check the motor and reconnect it. -------- To see how the radiator fan relay looks.Please click the link below:---- ======== If the relay checked out ok then it can be the issue with, thermo-switch.The thermo-switch is the part which controls the fan and triggers the fan to run, if engine overheats.May be the thermo-switch is getting triggered when key is turned off.Get the thermo-switch checked. ----------- Your Nissan cooling fan is controlled by a thermostat switch, which is a certain kind of device use for regulating the temperature of your engine system, so that your engine system's temperature is maintained near to its need or set point temperature. In general, cooling fan including your Nissan cooling fan is basically a low pressure air pump that uses motor power in order to deliver a constant air flow on your vehicle engine system at a given pressure. Cooling fan typically have two types; these are the mechanical cooling fan which is often used in most old vehicle models that is driven by a belt and pulley connected to your engine's crankshaft. While the another type is the electric cooling fan which is being used in most vehicles today; which is controlled by a thermo switch that is used to blow or **** air through a coolant filled radiator, to prevent your engine from overheating. ---------- --------------

Follow the hose coming out of the top of the radiator towards the engine. At the end of the hose you will see a plug. The thing that plug is inserted into is the Thermo Switch. This tells the fan when to turn on and off depending on rad fluid temperature. ------------

Check out. The relay and thermo-switch. ---------Also check the fuses in fuse box and relays. if any of them is shorted or blown, then get it replaced.--------also get the ignition switch and harness tested. As you mentioned, you turn the key to off and take it out, then lights blinks and fan turns on for ten seconds. But if the ignition switch is getting short or ignition harness connections are getting short, then it will trigger the other electrical parts of the car before turning the car off. In some cases, due to faulty/ short ignition switch the lights in the car or headlights turn on after car is turned off and key is removed. In your case its bit different, but same indication of lights coming on, after the key is taken out. Getting the ignition switch and harness checked is advisable. ---------------One more thing, for more help. All the electrical parts in the car are controlled by ECM. ECM is actually cars computer. It's a module with too many electrical connectors. the electrical connectors from other electrical parts, gets connected to ECM module. If ECM does not control the system properly, then these types of problems are noticed. If everything checks out ok, then last possibility is to get ECM re-programmed. But if ECM re-programming is not helping, then may be ECM needs to be replaced. The New ecm, too has to be re-programmed by dealer, this is done to match the car system memory. If new ECM connected/installed without reprogramming, then, in some cases, the problem remains the same. So its advisable to re-program the ECM, if its replaced. ----------Getting this possibilities checked. Will point towards the fault and help to resolve the issue. Thanks. Helpmech.

Iddle and Throttle problem!

had the same problem with the same year model, changed the idle position sensor, did not fix problem. took it to dealer because I was told that it had to have an idle relearn program ran on it, it didn't take and the dealer toldme that I need a ECM (engine control module) basically a new computer and it would cost with labor about 1100.00 dollars.

noroious for idle air control valve coils shorting and un fortunately destroying the drivers in engine computer that control them.could get real expensive real fast.address and rectify immediately if computer isnt already damaged!

My 2000 Maxima stalls in cold weather when I back it out of the garage and runs rough until it's fully warmed up. Dealer changed the air meter (I think) which was ridiculously expensive at $990.00. It...

You might check the IAC valve, Idle Air Control valve. That lets the vehicle know where to idle especially when cold. Normally Air flow meter and O2 sensors will trigger a check engine light and set a code that allows the tech to try and diagnose the problem. Also, possibly check the Throttle body to make sure it is not clogged up and completely dirty inside, that too can cause issues. If this helps please give some thumbs up. Good luck.

Idle air control valves short out all the time on these models. You can ohm the motor to check it, but the down side to a shorted iac valve is that it shorts out the ecm if not repaired quickly. when the valve shorts, 12 volts is supplied directly to the ecm and burns the circuit board. The other option is the air flow meter, this is also a very common problem but typically a p0171/p0174 would be stored in self diag.

P0505 Code

First make sure that your wires to you iac(idle air control) motor are ok. Also that the pins in the connectors are not damaged. Most likeley you need to replace the iac motor and follow a relearn procedure for the pcm.(powertrain control module)
The iac is most likely stuck in the extented position causing it to starve for air. You have to hold your foot on the gas to keep the throttle plate open enough to let air by for the engine to run.
