Where is ign.module for 89 6cyl. wrangler

ok just the word, 6cylinder.
but they had many.
early wrangler ,called the YJ jeep. true name.
be nice to know the VIN, number, xxxx on end.,
this tells the helper whats there, if still stock , is it? many are NOT.
many this old are engine swapped,
no photos by you of engine nor distributor...
nor the connector pin count on side of distributor.
lets do displacement first is it the 4.0L ?
with throttle body. injection, or a carb.?
1989 is a year of rapid changes, I had 2x 88s.
some have the french EFI , called Renix.
with 4 injectors, and a brain dead ECU. horrid.
this have there very own different spark systems.
I think the last carb ever on wrangler is 1987.
before this worse electronic carbs, yup , avoid them.
4.2L inline 6 no the 4.0L (5million made)
looks like injection did not happen on YJ until.... 1991. later
than all other jeeps, 4 years, late.
I had many of the others, my beloved, Comanche 88
500k miles long....
has spark timing, check.
has distrib. check
has sepr. coil check' has module outside, check.
im on line now at mitchells so could you.
The ignition module is mounted next to the battery on all models. It is a sealed, weatherproof unit on the 4.2L engine. 1987-90 vehicles equipped with a 2.5L engine, incorporate the coil in the control module."

seem you have this. says wiki.
4.2 L AMC straight-6 engine, 358cu/in. engine.

Is there a difference between a1989 and a 1998 Jeep Cherokee flywheel

what engine, I toss my engine coin and land on 4.0L

10 long years, (hopeless really)
first off the 89 runs a FRENCh RENIX ecu, EFI injection
so the 1998 does not use this ECU ever ,that means all that CKP sensor stuff
is ALL DIFFERENT. the tone wheel marks are NOT THE SAME.

jeep dealer pages show you what fits. ever think to try jeep.?

this years 1988 to 1998 are turbulent years, 1996 is OBD2 and big change then 89 year, there.
  1. The Chrysler buy out.
  2. and EPA rules.
Scary no? should be....
see link and this (generalized, spec. cars and years, vary, usa)
  • 1986 - Renix TBI available on Jeep 2.5 L four-cylinder engines. (early EFI, digital , not analog like relic VW's, in the past 1970s era) All Renix is NON OBD systems. up to 1990 inclusive)
  • 1987 - The new Renix controlled 4.0 L six-cylinder engine was rated at 173 hp (129 kW; 175 PS) and 220 lb·ft (298 N·m) of torque.
  • 1988 - 4.0 L output increased to 177 hp) and 224 lb·ft of torque now, due to higher compression ratio.
  • 1989 -90 Changed to French Renix MPFI. (multipoint fuel injection) now called MPI.
  • 1991 - 1st OBD, Chrysler Corporation system ( the above Renix control system is upgraded (trash canned), to USA OBD-I-compliant control electronics, the Chrysler HO EFI) with a working (SHOCK?) CEL lamp. + key trick works now.
  • (and SBEC-I or II ECU's 91-92 years) The key trick works starting in 1991.
  • 1993 are OBD1, and all good over the counter tools support it.
  • 1996 are OBD2, USA compliant, (EPA) and now all scan tools work here, (EPA law dictated that) and USA invented OBD2,

Ever try jeep? online, just look them up your self for all years
and learn what part numbers match.

What is the schematic for the Ignition LX931 Module on a 4.0 1990 Jeep Cherokee Laredo

the French Renix EFI system. from H3LL.
1989 changed from TBI to MPI injection, Renix.
1991 , you get real Chrysler EFI.
that is the history (rapid extreme changes then)
its unique too. from all other years, made.
as you can see the ECU fires the spark module.
so if the ECU sees errors. like lack of cmp signals it cuts spark
only the DRB scan tool can see this class failure.

the drawing is marked wrong, it dont match TBI Renix at all.
only yours it matches.

Have a 89 jeep with a 2.5 liter, keeps fouling out the plugs.

How is your o2 sensor? if it is bad it would make the car run rich and foul the plugs.

Ask where is asd fuse located on 90 jeep cherkoee

old post and is key question on old jeeps
no engine stated. guess 4L
the ASD began 1990 to present.
the car did not have and ASD until your car was 100% Chrysler EFI. The goofy French EFI has none .
ASD and the 3 second rules and 6 to 8 failure classes to trip it.
none. some jeeps changed in 1993,

  • 1986 - Renix TBI available on Jeep 2.5 L four-cylinder engines.
  • 1987 - the new Renix controlled 4.0 L six-cylinder engine was rated at 173 hp (129 kW; 175 PS) and 220 lb·ft (298 N·m) of torque.
  • 1988 - 4.0 L output increased to 177 hp (132 kW; 179 PS) and 224 lb·ft (304 N·m) of torque, due to higher compression ratio. Renix still TBI
  • 1989 - Changed to Renix MPFI. (4 injectors now)
  • 1991 - Chrysler Corporation (then the owners of the Jeep brand replaced the Renix control system with OBD-I-compliant control electronics, the Chrysler HO EFI) with check engine light.(and flash codes)

What type of transmission do i have?

Your Wrangler is a YJ and the model is an "S". A Wrangler manufactured in 1987 through 1995 are all YJ's and then from 1997 through 2006 are all TJ's. The new Wrangler models are dubbed JK's.
