Hi, the switch is on the column below the knee panel. You need to remove the knee panel and maybe loosen the column from the dash to get sufficient access to the switch. The switch has 2 connectors on it. Remove the smaller one first--it has 2 tabs holding it. Then remove the larger one. The switch is held on by 2 (5/16") screws on the left side of the column. The actuator rod is stuck into the side of the switch. Pull the switch off the rod and reverse procedure to install new switch. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using Fixya.

1990 Subaru Legacy will crank but not fire up. Just got it for free. It was running great, then it started running rough for a few days. It sat for about a month and now will not start. Got it for free....

Generally it is a matter of the easy/cheap approach first. Replace the fuel filter if you can followed by spark plugs. Since it ran fine initially then degraded it is likely that this is a fuel delivery or spark to ignition problem. Beyond these relatively cheap fixes the issue may entail a fuel pump or ignition coil(s). Good luck, these are quite durable and dependable vehicles generally.

Cylinder one on monte carlo 2003

If the code is 301 it means there is no power from that cylinder. It could be a problem with the ignition, fuel injector, or something mechanical.

My high beams will not turn off. The high beam light indicator on the upper dash remains on as well. Any thoughts to what might be the problem?

It sounds like you have a bad dimmer switch. Change it and you should be fine. This will entail you removing the steering column cover and the wheel, so you can get to the switch.

1995 Sable when ignition switch turned off, engine still runs and everything keeps working. ignition switch was changed; still has problem

You said you changed the ignition switch. You changed the switch or the ignition lock cylinder? I've seen cars also do this after a remote starter has been installed but you said you nothing like that on your car.

My 1994 f150 ignition switch will turn the truck on but won't turn it off. Also the switch is very loose, does this need to be changed or tightened?

The plastic ignition actator (plastic gear drive) has lost the steel pin pressed on the end of it. This thing connects the mechanical key ignition switch to the electrical ignition switch(with pin gone will push ignition on BUT with pin gone cannot PULL ign. switch to off position),the whole steering column will have to be removed from truck to replace.Availible from Ford or parts stores--ASK for plastic ignition actuator-metal one is for 1987 to 1991 F150s.

I get smoke from my steering colum

Have the ignition checked ASAP. There is a wire broken, loose, or worn.
This entails removing the steering column shroud and inspecting the wires.

I am working on 95 ford truck f 700 no spark from coil so changed the coil still nothing and 11 volts going in have any ideas?

Hello.
The most common no spark problem on these trucks is the ignition module.
These are mounted on the distributor with 2 small bolts. You may need to turn the distributor to access the bolts if yours is a V8. So you may need to reset your timing afterwards. If you do not have a timing light very carefully mark the position of the distributor first.
You only need to loosen the bolt at the base of the distributor to allow it to turn.
If the module doesn't cure the problem you may need to replace the pickup coil inside the distributor itself. This will entail distributor disassembly to replace.

Ignition switch 2005 pontiac sunfire

I had this problem on my daughters 2004 sunfire. I found a new switch on ebay and tried to do it myself. I found a website that had instructions. I dont remember what it was but you can find it if you look hard enough. I just followed the instructions. I had to remove the cover under the steering wheel where your knees are. then I tried everything to pop it out but couldn't. It said to drill out a pin(key type thing) so I really looked at the ignition switch(the new switch helped me see how it worked better) and found what they were talking about then just started drilling, I admitt that I thought I was really messing the thing up but I was out of options at that point, I broke about 4 or 5 bits because of the impossible angle, oh yeh I bought a right angle drill to do the job. I just found the artical. You only need this if your key wont turn the ignition. I forgot about that. Well give it a try its not as hard as it seems and I did a little damage but it didnt affect the ignition operation.
