I do not have owners manual and I need to release pressure in the fuel line so that I can install a new fuel filter. The on lin advice I have is to remove the fuel pump relay/fuse while car is running and wait until it dies off. do you happen to know which one it is in the layout for a toyota camary 1998 model?

Park the van on a flat, level surface. Ensure the parking brake is set.
Open the hood to locate the fuse panel. The fuse panel is located by the battery. Find the relay for the fuel pump and pull it out by hand.
Start the van and allow it to idle until it stalls out. This will depressurize the fuel system.
Locate the fuel filter under the van. The filter is located by the driver door mounted along the frame rail.
Disconnect the inlet fuel line with the quick-disconnect tool. This tool can be purchased at any automotive-parts stores. Place the tool over the connection and pull it toward the filter. This will release the fuel line from the filter. Repeat to release the line on the outlet end. Place a piece of masking tape over the inlet line to help remember which line is which. The inlet line is the line coming from the fuel tank into the filter. The outlet line is the line that runs to the engine from the filter.
Unbolt the filter from the bracket assembly. Slide the filter from the bracket.
Slide the new filter to the mounting bracket. Tighten the bracket with a socket wrench. Ensure the arrow is pointing toward the front of the van. The arrow designates the direction of the fuel flow.
Push the inlet line onto the filter. The line will lock in place. Ensure the tape is removed before installing. Connect the outlet line to the filter. It will lock in place also.
Insert the fuel pump relay back into the fuse panel. This will pressurize the fuel system.
Turn the ignition to the "start" position and allow the fuel pump to prime itself and push fuel through the lines. Attempt to start the van; it may not start right away. Once the van has started allow it to run for five minutes and observe for leaks.
No, there is no fuse for the fuel filter. If you plan on replacing the fuel filter it is a good idea(but not a requirement) to remove the fuel pump relay and crank the car for several seconds to relieve fuel pressure before dis-connecting fuel line from filter. (Helps make sure fuel doesnt spray back into your face.) You are going to have to reference the owners manual for the location of the fuel pump relay.
With the ignition key turned on without trying to start the engine you should hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds. That is how its primed to start. Upon starting the oil pressure reaches normal operations & the prime switch will cut off by the signal from the computer. Thus the engine still needs fuel to run so the computer switches on the fuel pump relay to provide the fuel to the engine. The prime switch is intergrated with the oil pressure switch. If you do not hear the fuel pump upon having the key on replace the oil pressure sensor

relieve the pressure in your fuel system. A fuel injection system
operates under very high pressure. If you don't release this pressure
before you start unscrewing fuel lines the result can be explosive. Do
this before you attempt to change the fuel filter. To release the
pressure in your fuel lines (and fuel filter) you'll need to locate the
fuel pump fuse in the fuse box. If you don't have a fuel pump fuse,
find the relay that operates the fuel pump. Once you've found the fuel
pump fuse or relay, start the car. With the engine running, pull the
fuse or relay out. If you pulled the right one, the engine will quickly
die. Since it's using all of the pressurized fuel in the system, the
fuel lines won't be pressurized when you crack the fittings on your
fuel filter. Now that you've relieved the fuel pressure you can remove the old fuel filter. If you didn't do this yet, you must go to the previous step and do it. Very dangerous!
Look on passenger side frame rail ahead of the rear wheel in a bracket with a fuel line on each end. Before starting replacement-- be sure to release pressure from fuel lines, by removing fuel pump fuse under hood and running engine to use gas from lines. I then remove fuel lines by moving clamps away from fitting so hose can be pulled loose from old filter while it is still in bracket. On top of mounting is a bolt that holds filter clamp in place . After removing clamp and filter from mounting bracket, loosen filter body clamp and slip oout old filter-- then in with the new filter. Then reverse your steps to install filter. After filter is back in place -- reinstall fuel pump fuse, turn on key for a few seconds for gas to refill lines, then start engine and check your installation to make sure you have no fuel leaks at line connections.
in your owners manual it will show all the fuses/relays and what their purpose is for. however you don't have to pull the fuse to change fuel filter just leave vehicle off. there will be just a little pressure but nothing to be concerned about. when you pull the line off the filter just remove slowly and the fuel won't spray everywhere. hope this helps....please rate this.....thanks
It is on the frame rail about even with the drivers door, it is round and held in place by a gold colored bracket.
You need to know takes a special tool to release the fuel line from the filter, suggest you find a MAC or SNAP-ON tool dealer, they will have it, Ford parts dept may have them as well, the are also made by OTC tool. a good parts store like NAPA may have the tool, the one here does. You will need be careful, the were will be quite allot of pressurized fuel in the filter, would suggest removing the fuel pump relay (refer to owners manual under fuses) and running the engine until it stalls, this will release most of the pressure.
