If you just got a transmission put in and your trans-axle light just came on I would take it back to the repair shop and have it addressed immediately. Sounds like something with the repair has gone wrong and it should be fixed under warranty your transmission should have.

You have a slipping transaxle, any time the RPM Flairs

If you drove it at all, other than to get home one time, or
take to a shop, your pretty much done & a rebuild is
not far off.

That's what happens when the fluid isn't changed every 3 years
or you continue to drive not aware of a trans issue

10 years is more than the life of that transaxle anyway

Assuming you were parked on some sort of hill, the jolt was the car moving and applying pressure to the park gear in the transaxle which is normal.
There is a neutral safety switch on the transaxle to prevent you from cranking the car in drive or reverse. Something may have happened to that switch when the transaxle moved.
When you turn the key to on and do not crank the engine, the check engine light stays on until the engine starts.
I would have someone check for voltage at the starter and at that neutral safety switch.

Transmission oil coming out the funnel

If you mean it is coming out of the fill/dipstick tube, then quit driving this car. You will trash the transmission, if it hasn't already happened. Usually when this happens the transmission cooler inside the radiator has busted, and is pumping coolant into the transmission. Then again I have seen some people just overfill it to the extreme. But either way it needs to be checked. This involves dropping the transmission oil pan.

Hi, smoke or steam is likely coolant, possibly from bad heater core. Unrelated to transmission. Transmission....if you already had the fluid and filter changed, it is likely the bands are slipping on the transaxle and it is time to replace it....check your fluid level first. Engine/transaxle warm on level surface in park.... If coolant level OK, if you can get it to go, drive it home. At least you will get it closer to home if the tranny goes completely out, lessening the potential tow bill. I'll always save a few bucks where I can. If the tranny is going out anyway, you cant really hurt it..MIke

yes that is where you add CVT(continuously variable transmission fluid), I would check with the dealer before adding any regular ATF, make sure you have the right fluid before you ruin your transmission and are left with a hefty repair bill!!

you need to take it back to where you had the trans rebuilt and have them check the codes for the trans. When mine did that there was a big problem but I waited to long to go have it checked out and ruined the trans.

I have a 1997 ford taurus. i put the car in drive and it will hardly move forward. the engine runs fine and was drive ok until this happened. reverse seems to be ok.

The first thing I would do is check the transmission fluid level.

The unfourtunate thing on these certain cars they are very notorious for having transmission problems. I am sure it is nothing you have done wrong, Ford had a lot of issues with their transmissions through those years.

I hope this helps, Allen
