Question about 2005 Jeep Liberty

1 Answer

Tailgate stuck Jeep Liberty 2005 LTD. Rear door (tailgate) is stuck closed. Window opens normally. Lock clicks when I use key or handle but door remains stuck. When it first happened all the interior lights came on and the only way to shut them off was to pull fuses and reset. Just didn't work for the door. Any ideas?

    2005 Limited Jeep Liberty.

Same problem. The handle will open the window but not the back tailgate. Does anyone know if there is a way to bypass or disable the auto locking mechanism which appears to be malfunctioning (as mentioned in solution #1)?

The auto lock burned out you need to go to dealer and get ripped off for $300 to have them fix it. Make sure you tell them the exact problem since it took 3 mechanics two days to figure mine out after i told them what was wrong the first time. Not too swift there.

How does the 1999 Tahoe tailgate open?

The right side can be unlocked with the key, once opened, the left side can be opened. Mine, the left side requires me to push in slightly while ensuring the release handle is pulled to it's furthest point before it will unlatch. If the electrical contacts at the door frame are dirty, the door may not unlock when pushing the button up front thus requiring the key to be used in the rear door. If this is not the solution, the latch rods inside the door need adjusted which requires some mechanical expertise.

Jeep Liberty tailgate won't close.

I would check to see if the latch is in the closed position.Using a screwdriver I would (with the gate open)have someone or your self do the action like you are opening the tail gate and try to move the striker in the door like the door is being pulled open.If the latch moves to the open positin gently try to close the door to see if it latches.

2003 Jeep Liberty Limited Glass Latch will not move on own.

Hello and welcome the problem is very simple to resolve first make sure you have battery power turn off vehicle open rear gate unlock doors go to rear gate and look at lock unlock again and push the Grey plastic lock trigger mechanism forward towards front glass close gate unlock again make sure lock is still in the position you just set it to and close glass it will the lock. Normally what happens in this situation was power was removed from your jeep and the rear gate was opened with no power running to electric lock so it stays in a set position you cannot lock the glass because there was no power in the electric lock I will lock once you reset it Hope this help. Tailgate will not open

There is a cutout on the inner tailgate cover that can be removed with a screwdriver. This will give you access to the latch assembly. There is a small lever mounted on the latch assembly. When you move it toward the driver side it will release the tailgate.

This works on my 03 Liberty but not on my 05 Liberty. They both use the same type of latch. Does anyone know where to get a latch other than a Jeep dealer? Jeep wants $235.00 for the latch.

Jeep Liberty 2005 Cannot shut tailgate window......

Hi all,

I had the same problem onmy dad's Jeep KJ (Cherokee/Liberty) so i went ahead and unbolted the tailgate handle;

First you need to take off the plastic inner tailgate cover (doh), then carefully pry away the the black liner and you'll see 2x 10mm hex nuts, unscrew both. Then on the latch outer side of the tailgate remove the upper 2 torx screws, then loosen one of the clamps of the connecting rod between latch and handle.
While pulling out on the handle (needed to clear the mechanism from the sheetmetal) you'll be able to carefully remove the complete doorhandle assembly.
There's still one wireloom attached to the handle, this is the culprit, It's the little actuator switch that's need liberal amounts of lubricant such as WD40 or similar.
I actually removed the switch and pushed it several times to full stroke after i lubricated it, then reconnected it and presto! The rear window unlocked every single time by means of the doorhandle instead of using the wireless remote...

Easy fix, done in half an hour. Saved you $ 300 on parts and labour

Good luck!
