Question about Jaguar XJS

1 Answer

A fiend of mine just bought this car and he and I went to bring it home. On the long trip homeit was only once it got dark that we found out that the dash was all dark, i.e. no lights at all and we could not see anything all within the area of the speedometer and the other gauge. All the gauges were working but no instrument lights. We phoned back to the previous owner to find out if he had any ideas; but to no avail; only a suggestion to start a blown fuse check. Well; with no manual; only a printout from a computor; and the prvious owners' suggeston to look under the hood on the passenger side first; we started to look. It was then that we actually found out just how many fuses and fusebox locations were in the car. We made it through a total fuse check on 3 of them and then gave up at that time. We did a search of the one that I mentioned; plus the both of the ones located underneath the rear seat; located in behind the kickboards. The last two located underneath the bonnet or hood/drivers' side; and the trunk one were not checked yet. As I stated; there is this problem; and my question is for any help in what fuse box might hold the area or fuse or relay that we should focus on? My friend is ordering replacement manuals but he would like to know any possible remedies?

Not 100% sure on that car but I would say it's the lights themselves that are out. If some work and some don't. I would think that if it were a fuse it would be the hole thing and not some. Hope this was helpful.

Thanks for the help! This particular problem is that there is absolutely no instrument lites working. It is not that some are burned out and others are not. No power to the whole dash area that houses the speedo;fuel temp gauge;oil;etcetera. Any other ideas?

the best thing to do is to have the car scaned with the diagnostic computer to see what fault codes are stored.
acording to the fault code you'll be able to work out what's wrong with it.
I'm sorry i ca't be anymore helpfull.

I put in a new battery. I went to get it inspected and it failed. The inspector said I needed to drive it about a hundred miles before the computer will reset. Then bring it back and have it inspected...

Once disconnected from the battery the computer needs to go through a drive cycle during which it does internal testing of the sensors. Generally that only takes a trip of about twenty or so miles. The inspector probably told you one hundred just to be on the safe side. Most times, you don't need to make the trip all at once but over the period of about a week, driving normally, with a few longer trips mixed in, everything should re-set.

Jeep 2006 battery died suddenly

I found out the hard way the best price for a Jeep Grand Cherokee battery. I bought one at a local autoparts place in Ohio because I was out of town when mine went bad. I went to my Local Sam's Club and found the same battery for just over half of the cost at the Autoparts counter.

2003 Audi A4 1.8T Check Engine light on

The CEL means there is a Diagnostic Fault Code stored in the Engine Control Unit. There are 1000's of DTC's, so you will need to have it read by a Code Reader. Auto Parts stores like Auto Zone, Pep Boys, perhaps even Advanced Auto often will read the code for you; but by law they cannot clear the codes. Many codes do not cause drivability problems, severe ones will trigger the ECU to run in a Limp Mode, which would require repair work before any trip longer than a few miles. Hope this is helpful.
