If not leaking on the ground or around your radiator you may have a blown head gasket.Good luck to ya.

Check your coolant leveling your radiator it is probable low. When driving the water pump spins faster to circulate the coolant through the motor to make the heater hot. if the coolant is full then there is a flow problem like bad thermostat to blocked radiator

2000 Oldsmobile alero had water in the coolant and it froze over night now it over heats and shoots the coolant out the overflow . I don't think the water pump is out. What else could be wrong?


Very serious.... don't over heat too much or your car will break..... could be the thermostat is hooped... or the water pump.... make sure the car is completely thawed.... but i'd she over heats take her to the mach.... night cost a few bucks but no car costs a lot more

Water leaking from teh rear of engine block. car does not hold water and over heats because of problem.


the motor has well known problem. it has an aluminum block. the threads for the head bolts loosen up in the block. making the heads loose so head gaskets leak.you have to remove the engine put in helicoils back in block to fix!!very exspensive job.

You have water in the latch mechanism. To solve the problem apply heat to the latch area of the door. I use a propane torch but a hair dryer or heat gun will also work. They will take longer though. Be careful with the torch so you don't burn the paint. hold it fairly close but keep it moving constantly. You will see the paint change appearance when you start to apply heat, keep heating until it changes back. At that point the latch will work. Close and open the door a few times and it should keep working for a while. The best thing to do is spray it with some WD-40 or RustCheck as soon as you get it working. Put the nozzle on the can and bend it right into the latch and spray around heavily. This should keep it from freezing up again. Hope this helps.

Have a 1993 toyota paseo it keeps running hot change out radiator and house it does not have a tremostate could that be making it run hot


An explanation of the cooling system.
You start your car, it is cold at first. The thermostat is shut. Car warms up and raises the temperature of the coolant in the engine block. Thermostat opens up. Water from the radiator (cool) is exchanged for water from the engine block (hot) The cool water causes the thermostat to shut. This traps the hot water in the radiator so that it can be cooled down. The cool water that was exchanged for the hot water, now becomes the hot water because it is in the engine block. It heats up until it's temperature causes the thermostat to open again, exchanging cool water for hot water. If you have no thermostat, then you will never hold water inside your radiator. You have to hold it there to allow it to cool off, then it becomes useful to cool your engine. So, yes put a thermostat back in it, and please vote as to whether this was helpful or not.

If the engine overheated while driving, damage to the cylinder head gasket or engine block/cylinder head may have been done, which would prevent the vehicle from starting.

A standard engine compression check will tell the tale.

This sounds like your automatic climate control is starting to malfunction. Check to make sure your coolant is full, and temp is not fluctuating, and when your vehicle is warmed up, try using the low setting and feel for air temp. Is it warmer than if you turn it up? When at idle the vehicle is not producing heat the same as if you are driving, putting load on your engine and more air/fuel combustion means more heat, which is why you can feel heat while driving. Ideally you should feel heat as soon as the engine is warming up, getting hotter as it reaches peak temp of 190-210 degrees. You can try to make sure your water control valve is not blocked, and all electrical connections are secure. This will be located close to your firewall and connected to the coolant tubes that run into your firewall to your heater-core. Also use recirc (setting)to try to summon as much heat as possible, however ultimately, you may need to take you vehicle in for service. If it only warms when driving defrost will be an issue. these suffer a bad heater matrix, the carpet gets wet.
head gasket, water goes brown.
water leak, under exhaust manifold a black steel pipe it pushes into block, there is a recess to hold an o ring on it rots away and leaks when driving making it hard to find, dont use rad weld as blocks heater matrix on these cars.
see if you have a water mark around the bottom pulleyas poss a leaking water pump, it will leave a white or brown mark around the pulley closer to the bulk head.

Hi names nate, im an apprentice inboard outboard mech by trad. We just hit the low minusus here and my 90 stanza 2.4 l is not heating up so im just wondering the best way to get at the thermostat, wich ive...


get the gasket and the thermostat ... winter temp thermostat ... tho summer should be fine.... two bolts hold the housing on to the engine block... remove them .... clean off any of the old gasket... make sure you put the thermostat in the proper way... i believe the part that heats up goes toward the motor but check on that.... some do and some don't but i would apply some gasket goo and then bolt it back up. start it up.... check the level of the antifreeze and add if necessary... check for leaks..... put the rad cap back on after it's heated enough that water is flowing.... as it builds up pressure ... check for leaks again.... i've left this for last but it should be first.... drain some of the antifreeze before you start the job.... doesn't have to be all of it.

after a few cycles of heating up... check that the bolts are still tight and that there are no leaks... remember one thing... antifreeze will leak where water wouldn't.
