Question about 1999 Isuzu Trooper

1 Answer

I have a 3.0 td duty 1999 with 70k miles, it has been running fine but recently has been cutting out when you lift off to stop at junctions etc, sometimes it will start again fine but then will not tick over then it seems to run ok for a while . Yesterday it did this then would not start for a while then when it did it ticked over just but when I pressed the accelerator the engine revs did not increase. Cleared itself after a while and limped home. Any advice would be appreciated

Mate I use to drive a freightliner and it cut out on me one day, I eventually got it started but cut out again after about 5 minutes, I rang a mechanic to come out and he found a heat sensor wire came off the radiator and that caused the motor to cut out... Hope I haven't wasted your time.......

Cuts out at junctions and when stopping

may be due to dust in your throttle body, spark plugs
1 - Try a throttle body/air control valve
2- check if by removing plugs from the spark plugs there's any change (no change in engine vibrations means a dead spark plug) you may wanna do this while the engine is hot

1996 acura 3.2tl replaced hose on back of engine replaced thermostat, replaced radiator, still running hot might run fine for week then run hot brown gunk in radiator.need help.thanks

Brown gunk is either oil from a blown head gasket or 'stop-leak'. The head gasket is expensive to fix.

If you have over 150,000 miles probably cheaper to replace the car if the head gasket is bad.

What does perform service service indicator light came on,what does that mean. 20.400 miles oil was changed @20,200 mikes

Perform service indicator warning is a heads up that another oil change is needed. Your vehicles computer calculates a duty cycle for service intervals; Driving distance, stop and go etc... Change the engine oil, and reset the alert, and you'll be fine.

Just leave the jumper on the switch, it will not hurt for the fan to run continuous. just be sure fan shuts down when the ignition switch is turned off.

Merc 280 cuts out at just above the 80 cent level

It is a good car. You just have a minor problem. Replace all thermal sensors on top of your engine. One to control the cold start valve, itf it is bad it gives erractic resistance to confuse the ECU. One is to turn on the electric fan when the engine temperature hot. If it is bad giving out of range resistance reading, then you have the described symptom. Good luck.

Cutting-out problem

I had a 1996 TD Disco with a similar problem, in that it intermittently cut out whilst running. LR dealer was useless (no suprise there), but I traced it back to faulty wiring leading to the fuel cut off solenoid. Its a simple bypass to make the solenoid work (take a wire off the positive - best ask a garage, if you don't feel safe doing it yourself).

A lot of places will change the solenoid ("assuming its faulty"), but my local friendly AA patrol neighbour mentioned that the wire fails more often, and thats much cheaper to check first.
