Question about Volkswagen Beetle

1 Answer

After I leave it for 24 hrs , the car will not start and I have to charge the battery. Some days it does start, other times I may drive it to a destination come back and the car will not start. I took it to a vw mechanic and he thought it was the starter. he changed that but something is still draining the battery.

If you take your negative wire off batterry make sure you got radio code before you do
when you tip battery connection to battery should not get any spark if everything is switced off
if you are getting spark check see what is drawing power could be something fitted that u do not know about like an old phone system or something like that goodluck

We just replaced battery and cleaned any corrosion on connections and the battery light has came back on less than 24 hrs. Later. Any suggestions?

Was the battery fully charged Casey? Have you used the vehicle since and long enough journeys to charge the battery past what was used to start the vehicle?

Battery light also indicates that the alternator may not be charging the battery.

My 2014 Honda accord has been running great... I had my oil changed about 3 days ago, today 2/26/15 no problems all day until I got home turned off car and probably 2 hrs later tried to restart and it will...

It could be your battery. It could also be your alternator, or just corrosion on the battery terminals. I would remove the battery and clean the terminals. Take your battery to a auto parts store. Most will check your battery for free. If your battery is not charged fully ( which is likely) they will have to charge it before testing. This could take a while. If the battery checks out get some battery terminal grease before you leave the store. Reinstall the battery using the grease. Drive the car up to the store and ask to have the charging system checked.
If you can get the car started. This entire procedure can be done at the store. But you would be running the risk of the car quitting on you somewhere on the way to the store.

How many days can i leave my car without starting the engine?

It depends on the state of your battery, Your Blazer uses around 1mA of power for the computer and radio memory in 12 hrs. So a good battery should hold enough charge for 60-90 days.

Ive recently been given a diesel mazda ute. id say its about 15 years old. apparently it just stopped starting about 2 weeks ago. when you try to turn it over it just makes a tick noise, just the once....

battery not charging and now its flat ,put battery on charge and see what happens ,a diesel needs a lot of power to crank owing to the high comperssion of the engine ,well it is a compression ignition defined engine so charge battery and see what happens ,leave it on charge for at least 24 hrs and then try it or it could be the starter motor but i suspect the battery first as its also the easiest to change

I bought an audi a3 1.6 in october 2009 not knowing that the heater or the radio didn't work-i mention this just in case it is relevant to the battery drain.approx after one month the car wouldn't start...

Hi Anne,
With all vehicles using electronic computer management systems, there is always very low consumption of power from the battery, as these systems are running all the time. However even with those systems running you should be able to leave the car parked for a period considerably longer that one week.

As the AA has confirmed that the charge rate is correct from the alternator, I would suspect the replacement battery. Make sure that the size (The amp hour capacity is correct for your vehicle) If it's too small the systems may drain it during the time indicated....

I doubt very much that you have a short circuits in the vehicle, but to be on the safe side take it along to a shop who have an auto electrician and let them carry out the relevant tests.

I suspect the battery.

I ran into the problem and it was corrosion on the battery terminals. on the inside against the battery. also check the the terminals for good connection.
