Question about 2001 Chevrolet Blazer

2 Answers

Just put in a new water pump, the old was leaking some terrible. Changed the spark plugs and wires. I put in a new distributor cap, the other one was cracked, and I put a new rotor in. I added a MAS sensor because it would not start unless I poured gas in the carbureator. I had to put in a new fuel pump, and it works fine, but the vehicle, which is a 2001 Chevy Blazer, 4.3 liter engine still will not start unless you pour fuel into the carbureautor. It just appears to not be getting any gas at the carbureator. Is this bad fuel injectors or what? Once the little gas that you have poured into the carbureator runs out, the vehicle stops running. Its just not getting gas and the fuel lines are full of gas coming from the fuel pump... Anyone have any idea whats going on here, would sure appreciate it. Bill

It sounds to me that your control module is bad It is located on the left side facing the engine on top of the intake

You may be on point....I do know what you are talking about..I will definitely check it out tomorrow. It seems a lot of control sensors went out on the truck all out the same time,

Will reply back again tomorrow. Thanks regardless , I really appreciate all the help and advice I can get. Times are really hard and just do not have cash to pay a mechanic or a qualified person to check the vehicle..so, as I am doing the repair, I am learning a lot about this vehicle.

This sounds like a fuel pressure problem and probably is the fuel pump as these run at about 35lbs pressure and will not start a car with less than 32lbs pressure usually.you could have a plugged the fuel filter.I would check the fuel pressure or check to see if you can hear the pump running.when you change the pump change the fuel filter.

My car wont start

It doesn't matter if the exhaust is leaking if the car won't start. The smell... does it smell like gasoline? If you have a new alternator and battery, then I would focus on the fuel system. Fuel pump, fuel injector, leaking fuel line, bad spark plugs, bad distributor cap, bad spark wires, oxygen sensor, etc.

Hi,
Check the ignition distributor cap and clean the electric contact points it might be already dirty.

if one has a spark that means your ignition coil is still okay. Remove the whole cap and check the inside part and clean it, use emery board.
Check also the high tension wires( spark plug wires ).
Hope Fixya helps you!

change one spark wire at a time on the distributor.buy new set of spark plugs wires remove them from box.match old wires with new wires to use the correct length to each cylinder.now if you need to change distributor cap.mark location distributor cap.number tag plug wires on the distributor cap so you can remove plug wires on distributor cap so you can replace cap and rotor and put wires back on the distributor cap in correct place.remember change one plug wire at a time so you wont get confuse.

Most parts from the parts store are made in mexico, reconditioned from old pumps that were sent back.

Replace the pump with a FACTORY part. As for your poor running engine, I would recommend replacing the spark plug wires and spark plugs. If it is equipped with a distributor; replace the cap and rotor. These parts are high-voltage related and will not work properly if they are damaged and moisture is present.

What are all of the parts needed for a tuneup for my 95 quests

Spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and distributor rotor. If you replace all of these you would be doing what is called a major tune-up.

A regular tune-up would be just replacing the spark plugs.

You can check the integrity of the plug wires and distributor cap by spraying them with water while the engine is running. If the engine runs ruff, stall, or you see spark arcing from either the wires or the distributor cap than they will need to be replaced.

The distributor rotor always gets replaced when you replace the distributor cap.

You can also spray the coil with soapy water to see if it is leaking as well.

well on low rpm is possible due to a a damaged distributer. its the lt engines fault after getting older the seals on the distributer starts taking in forign objects eg water .its located under the water pump. but check for a wire damage on the harness it will be visible on left hand side if ur faceing towards the car below the throttle body.

You have a cylinder imbalance ,plugs or wires,if the distributor is in the front down in front,it has got to have some work, look for a water pump leaking on the distributor.Check cap,and rotor on the distributor.

Your ignition circuit is faulty- it's probably the ignition switch itself that is defective. The misfire is that the distributor cap has a crack in it and the spark is directed to a particular plug wire and the spark has found its way to a non designated plug wire. It wouldn't be the coil, change the rotor and distributor cap be sure to mark your plug wires and reinsert into the proper hole in the distributor cap. Good Luck, Jim

The opti-spark distributor cap is below the water pump.
Often a leaking water pump will cause a short in the distributor
Due to the amount of time and labor cost to remove the water pump, and that fact that the water pump has to be removed to replace the distributor cap, it is a good idea to replace the distributor cap at the same time the water pump is replaced. The water pump is driven by a pinion shaft with an " O " ring. Be sure to replace the " O " ring too else you may shortly develop an oil leak at that point.

1987 GMC Jimmy Distributor cap and Rotor replacement

A diagram may not be needed as its a reasonably easy fix to do on your own.the distributor ca p will only fit on properly one way because at the base of the cap locaters can only fit the distributor if they line up.When doing the spark plug leads do them one at a time and if nessecary write or mark leads as 1,2 etc .The rotor can only fit on one way but put a mark on the distributor to show where the rotor was pointing when you took it off and if it still points there when the new one is fitted. When changing distributor cap and leads they have to go to the correct place.Pays to mark the outside of distributor cap where the locating bits are On the new and old one.Fit the new cap and rotor then take a spark plug lead and fit to new cap 1 at a time. You can tell by lining up the marks on the outside of the distributor cap when you hold them one on top of the other.Good luck
