Question about Subaru GL
It could be that the thermostat in the top of the radiator is jammed shut.
The thermostat prevents water circulation while the engine is cold and opens when the engine reaches its working temperature. If the thermostat fails, the the radiator cannot cool the engine.
Try replacing the thermostat, it shouldn't be very expensive.
