My 91 corsica 4cyl 2.2 has started stalling at traffic lights. Restarts but stalls at next light. After a few restarts it won't start until I leave it for about 10 minutes. When running in park, engine surges and dies back a few times and then runs smooth. Now it sometimes won't start if I shut it off while it's warm. Turns over fast enough but won't fire and I smell gas. I have to wait 20 minutes to an hour before it will start. Taken it to a garage 3 times but they can't find the problem because it's always running good when I get there. Please help!

It sounds like the catalytic converter could possibly be almost completely plugged up not allowing the exhaust to leave the engine like it should. It just builds up in the cylinder head and when it gets too much in it built up and there's no where to go, it'll stall the engine. By letting it sit for a few minutes, it gives the exhaust time to find a way out and the car will restart.
Sounds like a relay or coil failing. To proceed you would need to find out if you are loosing spark to the plugs or fuel pressure to the injectors when it won't start.
the engine is starved for fuel, are you sure you put on a big enough capacity fuel filter, they come in different capacities,or you could have a pin hole in the line somewhere letting air into the system,or the fuel pump could be getting weak, you can test this with a fuel pressure tester
Honda is notorius for bad MAIN RELAYS the solder in them crack and can not be seen with the nacked eye. This is due to simple expansion & contraction the solder heats up & cools down. Try that.
It sounds like the torque converter clutch. Just unplug it. It is the square 4 pin plug on the front of the transmission. Once it is unplugged and you get it unlocked, it will be fine. Just leave it unplugged, it won't hurt anything.
turn the lights on and off then try starting the car. some how it restarts the system and you can drive off. my car does the same thing and when i do that i can always start the car
