It seems like power source for the brake light is connected to different connection instead of break switch. Please check it with any garage whether it is connected to Head light connection.

Tail lights stay on.

Are you sure they are not the brake lights? Have someone step on the brakes and see if these lights change in intensity or if other lights come on. If you don't see any difference when someone steps on the brake, then these probably are the brake lights staying on. There should be an adjustable switch touching the brake pedal arm. You will have to loosen a lock nut to adjust the switch until the brake lights go off. Then re-tighten the lock nut without letting the switch move again.

How to change brake light bushing on 1998 nissan frontier

the break light switch has a needle like rod that pushes up against a flat plastic bushing. The bushing has probably fallen out. Without the bushing the rod has nothing to push against. So, your brake light stays on. I replaced mine with a rubber press screw that fits perfectly in the small hole. Rubber press screws are generally used to secure rubber splash guards under vehicles. They push in and don't back out. Now reattach your break light switch and the rod will now have a bushing to push against.

Brake lights stay on even when car is off

Brake lights- check your brake switch (stop lamp switch) usually right above the brake pedal if this gets knocked out or out of alignment the lights will come on just like you pushing down on the pedal.

Jaguar x type brake lights stay on

the brake light switch has either moved out of the bracket just above the brake light pedal or the brake light switch itself is faulty.
look just above the brake pedal, there should be a switch on a bracket so that when you press the brake pedal the spring plunger piece of the switch moves out and the lights come on. make sure the plunger goes in when the brake pedal goes back to normal position.if the lights stay on when the plunger is pushed in the switch is faulty and needs changing, quite common. hope this helps
