That was done and checked ok
We have made a direct connection to batery to be able to return and problem persisted.

It seem to come from the rest of the car wiring.

I dont think it is the alternator itself, but the wiring harness for the alternator. The wires (should be four) need to be tested for continuity to rule out a bad wire.

Check the voltage between the battery negative post and the alternators positive wire at the alternator, it should read the same voltage as the alternator. Also, the alternator case has to have a good ground, make sure that the case is grounded.

2012 Grand Caravan. How do I turn the battery light off after installing a new battery?

Test the alternator. The battery light is for the charging system. Once the charging system is working with the engine running, the light should go off. If your light stays on with engine running, the alternator may need service or replacement.

To test the charging system, just put a voltmeter on the battery with engine running. The voltmeter should register at least 13.5 volts- alternator is charging. If you only show battery voltage with engine running, like 12.2-12.8 volts, the alternator or charging system is not working. The battery light should be on to signify this.

Battery light on and off

The battery light means the alternator is not charging the battery. The charging system would need to be checked out when the light is on.

95 Chevy lumina van, heat on won't turn off. A/c

Hi wodermom26,

Your Lumina APV is a clone of the Pontiac Transport and Oldsmobile APV's which all have identical Heater & A/C controls. The Heater & A/C controls usually wear out mechanically causing no control of temperature. This is a difficult repair and is best made by a dealers ASE Certified Technician. A/C may require re-charging and or possible replacement of the hoses which carry the refrigerant as they become porous and leak. Additionally, the Compressor and its Clutch may possibly require replacement.

The High beams are controlled by pushing the Turn Signal switch forward toward the Instrument panel and have a momentary "Flash to Pass" function by pulling the Turn Signal Lever upward toward the steering wheel and return to Low Beam upon release of the turn signal Lever. If neither function of the Beam selector lights the High Beams it is pssible that the Headlamp bulbs are burned out or open connections in the wiring harnesses. Do you have an owners manual for your Lumina? If so it has information regarding the Multi-Functions of the Turn Signal Lever.

My 1990 chevy lumina will start up for few seconds then die. it wont stay running for more than 5 seconds but will starts up every time. when i give it gas it dies immediately

Sounds like low fuel pressure. Check your fuel pressure. If you have the 3.1 liter engine and just turn the key to the "on" position you should have around 41 - 47 PSI. When running it should have about 31 - 44 PSI. If you have the 2.5 liter engine you should have 26 - 32 PSI of pressure when running. I hope this helps and good luck.

There is no RPM pickup switch on a 3.1L MPFI. The RPMs are derived from the igntion module, its a white wire on the 6 or 7 prong clip. It uses input from resolution of crank sensor to determine engine RPM. what is your problem?

1990 6 cly chevy lumina starter

Assuming it will start again once it is warmed up, it is likely the battery is in poor condition/will not hold a charge. Unhook the battery once the car is running; if it continues to run, your charging system is probably OK, and the problem is likely to be the battery. If the problem continues after replacing the battery, you probably have a slow drain or short somewhere in the wiring harness. Best of luck on that one.
