When this happens there are a couple of things that it could be, eihter you have a bad cable, bad connection, or you are looking at a faulty starter relay switch. I would recommend that start with the easiest, checking the connections, cables to the battery and ending with the relay.

Why does my 1989 Olds cutless ciera starter connections get red hot when starting the engine.

Before you do anything make sure your battery cables are clean and tight. Loose cables can do this as well. If that's not the problem
sounds like your starter is drawing too much power and is on it's way out. Could cause a fire Better get it fixed.

My 1999 Chrysler 300m has had two starter fires. Replaced starter twice in 6 months help!

Yes sir. The ignition switch/relay is not releasing the "start" connection when key is released after starting thereby solenoid remains on with stater running. If threr is a relay check and replace if necessary. If it's got no relay replace ignition switch.

What causes it to not get fire to the starter

Dead or low battery voltage would be number one cause.

86 Chevy Suburban not starting.

Is the starter actually turning the engine over (engaging), or is it just whirring rapidly? If it is not engaging, then the vehicle certainly will not start. If it is not engaging, there is most likely a shimming issue to be addressed to get the starter to engage. If it is engaging, check carefully the large nut in the starter solenoid. There are usually more than one wire attached to this nut. Ensure that you have not missed replacing any of the wires that came off the starter studs. Some feed back to the fuse paqnel and can be critical for operation.

Truck was running day before, and every day before that, it was possibly -10 this morning and truck just clicked real fast, changed ground wires, battery to chassis to starter, and solenoid to transmission...

Car won't start not the battery

Test the neutral safety switch but doing the following steps.

1)foot on brake
2)turn key to on position
3)shift lever to neutral (N)
4)start the engine
5)shift the lever to Park (P)

If the engine can start at N and not at park then it's the neutral safety switch.
