Question about 1995 Ford Escort

1 Answer

I changed the battery and negative treminal for my 1995 ford escort and as soon as I hooked up the battery it blew the 100 amp main fuse under the hood. I replaced the 100 amp fuse and hooked the battery up again and sparks flew from the negative terminal and fried the 100 amp fuse again. What am I doing wrong?

At a guess, I'd say that you have got the new battery in back to front. This means that you are hooking the earth wires to the Positive side of the battery.

Under the hood is a fuse panel. On the left side of the panel there is a door that lifts up. Under that is a 175 amp fuse. You can check it with an ohm meter or just replace it.

I hooked up the jumper cabels wrong

First charge your battery than test it .or replace the battery with a tested good battery once your sure you have a good battery check your Main Large Fuse under hood. If fuse is good check cables first positive than negative if all is good test starter solonid .If this was helpful please leave good feedback

Hooked up spare battery to the wrong terminals now have no power at all lights still work but no dash lights? what could it be is there a fuse that might have blown or something worse?

Under the hood is a fuse box. In this box is going to be a large fuse (between 60 and 100 amps usually) and it may be labeled 'main', 'alt', or 'batt'. This is the fuse that runs from the battery to the main power of the vehicle. When you hook a battery up like that it blows this main fuse. You'll need to replace that and any other fuses it blew out.

I was changing oil on my 99 escort zx2 and my wrench touched the back of the alternator and blew the main 100 amp fuse. I replaced it and now the temp guage, and fuel guage do not work and the wipers will...

Have you checked the rest of the fuses? Both under the hood and under the dash. It sounds like you may have also blown the wiper switch. The 'gauge' fuse is suspect, make sure you check it as well. FYI, the oil filter in these cars are hand tighten only.

1995 Fore Escort, how do I replace the negative battery cable?

Disconnect battery cable & then the bolt or nut that connects other end to engine ground. You may have to disconnect & replace later a couple of other hold down ties to cable. Good luck!
