If it has a carburetor the answer is yes. Basic thumb rule is turn both fuel & air adjustment screws (brass screws with holding springs) all the way colckwise. DO NOT tighten, you will damage them. Simply turn lightly until they stop. Next turn each one counter clockwise 1 1/2 revolutions. The screws will be near the bottom of the carb with one on each side. After making the adjustments start the engine and make small adjustments as necessary until you acheive the desired performance.

Being that your truck is an '84 model, I'm assuming that it is carbureted. You could adjust the carburetor to send more or less fuel into your engine, therefore adjusting your air fuel ratio.

Hope this helps,

P.S. If this does help, please leave feedback.

200 chevy s10 2.2L 5sd 2wd code P0171 indicates that the bank 1 system is too lean for predetermined period of time

It means the engine fuel air mixture is incorrect. Too much air makes lean fuel burn. The computer will try to adjust by enriching the fuel air mixture. At some point it reaches a limit and kicks a code. Check for sources of intake or vacuum leaks.

89 Chevy s10 blazer 4.3 I've tried 93 octane gas vavles rattle under a load

it is not the valves that are rattling under load but detonation in the combustion chambers from incorrect air/fuel mixture and ignition timing
The rattle is the pistons being slapped against the cylinder wall and the rings taking a pounding in the ring grooves
detonation is the untimed spontaneous combustion of a weak air/fuel mixture ( diesel action) before the spark ignites the mixture
It can melt the top out of the piston because it sends the combustion temperature up to 200 degrees c higher than normal
Evidence of detonation in an engine can be seen in the crown of the piston as small pit marks as if being pounded by ball bearings
How to fix --- drop the advance timing of the ignition back to 12 btdc ( standard on chev motors) or better back to 10 degrees btdc
increase the main jet sizes in the carbys or make sure that the power valves are operational in the carbies
The correct air/fuel mixture is 15:1 and that should be maintained at all times unless under acceleration when it can go up to 17 or 18:1 but if it drops below 14:1 when the throttle is wide open and the fuel is not increased to compensate ( accelerator pump or power valve ) then detonation will occur

My 93 s10 idols to fast when first started

With more air entering the engine [defective vacuum lines] to keep the fuel mixture correct ,,,,,fuel is increased causing the high idle.---------- Check the vacuum line and idle air control valve on throttle body checked.------------- Click this link below for car troubleshooting problems:--- http://schematicsdiagram.blogspot.com/2011/06/car-troubleshooting-guide.html ---------- Thanks.

My '84 s10 ran 2 years ago, then it sat outside untouched until now, it turns over but doesn't want to fire up. What should I do to get it running? Is it not getting enough fuel?

It needs a good tune up such as oil change, new wires and plugs, air filer, fuelfilter, and if possible try to drain gas lube all tire rod ends an as much as the chassis that has grease fittings.

I have a code reader and the code is P0171 P0174 System too lean. what makes the system too lean?

P0171 - Fuel Injection System Too Lean Bank 1
Possible Causes:
- Intake air leaks
- Front Heated oxygen sensor may be faulty
- Injectors may be faulty
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Lack of fuel
- Mass air flow sensor may be faulty
- Incorrect PCV hose connection

P0174 - Fuel Injection System Too Lean Bank 2
Possible Causes:
- Intake air leaks
- Front Heated oxygen sensor may be faulty
- Injectors may be faulty
- Exhaust gas leaks
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- Lack of fuel
- Mass air flow sensor may be faulty
- Incorrect PCV hose connection

What Causes These Codes: Fuel injection system does not operate properly. The amount of mixture ratio compensation is too large. (The mixture ratio is too rich.) The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) monitors the engine Air/Fuel mixture ratio, the actual mixture ratio can be brought closely to the theoretical mixture ratio based on the mixture ratio feedback signal from the heated oxygen sensors 1. The PCM calculates the necessary compensation to correct the offset between the actual and the theoretical ratios. In case the amount of the compensation value is extremely large (The actual mixture ratio is too lean.), the PCM judges the condition as the fuel injection system malfunction and light up the engine light. The codes is usually set when there is an intake leak after the air flow meter, before replacing any parts check for loose or broken hoses and intake gasket leak. On Ford some models dirty air filter, and dirty or faulty air flow sensor are the cause of the problem.

1993 Explorer acts like its starving for fuel only sometimes. When this occurs I can not get over 40 mph. It has a new fuel pump and filter fairly new fuel injectors.

Hi
Firstly clean the air filter.
Secondly check the fuel filter, one of the main culprits for this issue.

Also, you will need to set the mixture right(fuel and air), as you have mentioned that you have installed new injectors, my guess is that the air and fuel mixture has not been set.

Berry

Im trying to find the optimal settings for my two bbl carb

You will need a vacuum and Tach meter guage, when the highest vaccum/RPM reading is reached the air fuel is near perfect, make sure you start lean and slowly turn the mixture screws out ( or in depending on carb type) evenly, reset idle speed if ness, as it can increase allot. In order to meet emission tests and get better fuel economy I would lean each screw 1/4 turn from best vaccum/RPM setting. Also verify the ignition timing is correct before any adjustment is made and engine is at operating temp.
