Question about Pontiac Montana SV6

1 Answer

My SV6 will randomly hard shift. It doesn't do it all the time but it does it a lot. I've narrowed it down to notice it does it after the Van has been warmed up, usually about 1hr after start up. It has not problem getting in and out of gear, it just shifts hard when going into gear. Is this a transmission issue or could it be related to my ABS/Traction Control sensor being bad?

If you have a bad sensor it very well could be..I know the speed sensor, abs, and traction control can affect the transmission. I had a bad speed sensor give me those problems and when it went out the speed sensor kept my car from changing gears period.
My Pontiac gave me the same problems so I would look at changing the wheel speed sensor.
Getting the computer codes will tell you alot.
Hope this helps you in the right direction.

Thank you very much that helps. I've been told could be the transmission or CV axel. Now I'm not a mechanic but neither of those made any sense to me. Long story short I figured it had to have something to do with the sensors, it would only shift hard when sensor alerts on the dash are be on. Thanks!!!

I've been having multiple problems with my 1998 dodge caravan, and was wondering if the cause of all of them would be from the moisture that's getting into the brain box?

I suggest you get another unit as the water or moisture in the box will not be helping at all. In all your fault codes if it is the box you would have had a fault code that includes the cpu as a source of the fault.

Oldsmobile Silhouette possible problem(s), just questions currently.

First & only suggestion I have, is get rid of it, and any van type vehicle

They all are unsafe in an accident

Having once owned a trans repair shop, I will tell you they all have bad
transaxles & that is what you have

It is tens years old,the trans was done no matter what vehicle you bought

You mentioned water in headlight & more issues

That vehicle is going to cost too much to straighten out --- UNLESS
you do (100%) 100% of ALL WORK yourself & the trans is not something you can do yourself or even install one

2005 pontiac sv6 door alarm chimes all the time. how can I disable or bypass the chime?

On my '07 Montana SV6 was the same problem, I've fix it by moving up to 3 mm. contact plate at the body frame of the rihgt sliding door. If you check the spots on the plate where pins from the door comes to this plate, you will see that they contacting not in a middle. There are two ways to fix: move down pin unit in the door or move up contact plate on frame. For me second way was better. It's manufacture mistake comes sinse 2005 and on right door only.
