You probably will have to replace the cap. You may be able to cut another gasket to go onto the one you have, but it would probably be a lot easier to change the lot. At least you would know then that it is right, and you'll stop the leak..With the sump plug, replace it at a dost of maybe $2.00, so it's not worth mucking around with trying to " fix" it.
