Fuel tank pressure sensor is a sensor that is on my vehicle and I would assume on all vehicles on the fuel tank itself. Fuel tanks build up pressure (lots of pressure sometimes) They must have a way to vent this pressure so manufactures install fuel tank pressure valves and wire a sensor to it and hook it up to the on board computer. On my Mercury marquis it is impossible to replace my sensor without first removing the fuel tank. So to answer your ? yes the fuel pump regulator is different than the fuel tank pressure sensor. If you need help positively locating where it is go to Autozone.com and create an account (free) and enter your yr/mk/model and there you can go to repair help and view online Chiltons repair manuals. Good Luck!

How many fuel lines are going to the fuel rail? If there is only one line that you have a later model 2000 and the system is considered return less. This means that the fuel pressure is regulated at the fuel pump before the fuel gets to the fuel rail.
If there are two lines going to the fuel rail than the fuel pressure regulator has to be in between one of those lines and the fuel rail
You have a short or a bad voltage regulator. Check your battery connections. Not just on the battery, check the wires all the way to the connection points to ensure there are no worn insulation where the positive wires could possibly be grounding out. Get the Haynes Repair manual on your vehicle so you can locate the voltage regulator. Typically this is part of the alternator but in several VW vehicles I have had and worked on the voltage regulator is in a separate location. Test the voltage regulator according to the manual.
