If you're getting a start from assisted"spray" start, then it"s definetly not getting fuel to the engine. it may be due to either a bad fuel pump#1 solution. but if you do not hear the fuel pump "hum" in the fuel tank when the key is turned to the "on" position",then the fuel pumps not pumping. this takes 2 people. 1 to turn the key to "on"position, while the other person is under the car listening at the fuel tank for the humming. you may also check under the hood for a bad fuel pump relay,in the main fuse box under your hood.one way to check for fuel pressure is to turn key to "on" position,go under hood to the fuel rack itself{silver} tubing that supplys fuel to the engine, look for a silver tubing on the top of your engine, you will see what looks like a tire valve stem, with a nail or sharp tipped object, depress the valve like stem and fuel will spray out very high and hard when the valve like stem is depressed.be sure to cover your eyes and that the engine's not running!the key will have to be in the "on" position.if this test produces small fuel pressure then you will need to replace the fuel pump, which is located inside the gas tank. most garages place the charge of replacement of fuel pump,on how much fuel is in the gas tank. the more fuel in the tank, the heavier it is to remove the fuel tank.be sure to check your fuel pump relay in the main fuse box under the hood 1st. it's in the main fuse box under the hood.hope this helps you! if you feel like this is not assisting you, please reposy your questions to fixya.com

How do I know if my fuel pump is bad? my 97 intrepid will turn over but won't start.

If you spray starting fluid in throttle body and it starts, you have a fuel related issue. If you hook up a gauge to the rail and the pressure is within spec, it doesn't always mean the pump is good. You may have the pressure but not the volume needed to stay running. It'll run but you'll have drivability problems and or stalling. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have a 2001 Mazda protege. Has new fuel pump and pressure regulator, I have cleaned fuel tank , lines, rail, and injectors. Relays and fuses are good. I took breather off and sprayed fuel into throttle...

sounds like an electrical problem .pump isnt coming on .turn on key listen for fuel pump to come on for 10 seconds then shut off on its own. If you dont hear the pump then its probley fuel relay . next check wires are plugged into fuel pump. lots of cleaning ?? is the fuel rail screen plugged ???? disconnect before rail if the pump comes on next. turn on key check for fuel pumping out line .

99 taurus sat for 2 mounths has gas wont start

Has gas where--- in the fuel tank?

Put a fuel pressure gauge on the
fuel rail & see if you have a working
fuel pump,system & pressure,somewhere
around 40# with key on/eng off

I assume the engine turns with the starter

Is the battery any good, start there, can read 12.5 volts
& still be bad

Will it try & start if you spray the throttle body with starting
fluid or carb cleaner

If you have spark plug wires, put an old plug into one wire
& ground it on motor to check for spark

You can have spark but too weak to run motor

Make sure all fuses are in place & good

1985 grand Marquis acts like not getting fuel to start but if I pour gas directly into throttle body starts right up and runs what could be problem

Runs on the gas you pour in, or keeps running until you turn the key off ???
If the fuel pump relay fails, you would have to crank the engine until you get oil pressure to provide power to the fuel pump.
Do the injectors spray when you are cranking it ? Have you checked fuel pressure when the key is turned to start ?

2007 Ford 500 Sedan showing code po191. For a couple weeks my car keeps jerking and acting like it is going to stop running, especially when I turn the a/c on. It cut off on me once and I cranked it f

See another mechanic,P0191 means fuel pressure rail circuit./performance. once this code appears there is no use in taking a fuel pressure reading, the purpose for the fuel rail sensor is for the fuel pump performance,it adjust voltage to the fuel pump as vehicle load increase it commands the ECM to give more voltage to the fuel pump, you must satisfy the fuel pressure rail sensor first,or you will do nothing but stall out.

Not getting gas to throttle body

Throttle body only regulates air, fuel goes to injectors. Check for fuel pressure at the fuel rail.

My truck will not start just cranks but will not fire

Air - not likely the problem ! mechanical cable controlled throttle body

Fuel- make sure there is gas in tank! fuel pressure test at the throttle body or rails, if no fuel check power to fuel pump: ignition power to breaker or fuse, relay , power to pump at 3 pin connector near tank/frame rail on drivers side, - if pump is runniig but insufficient pressure, check for mechanical restriction: plugged filter broken or pinched line, plugged pickup tube in tank. if good pressure to rail or body, check ecm : diagnostic codes, fused power, ecm tells injectors when to open, dependent upon several sensor parameter inputs.

Spark- ignition - coil-distributor-ignition module (or coil packs)- wires-plugs-ignition module (signals coil to discharge, mounted beneath distr cap) work backwards from plugs.

IS THERE A FUSE THAT ALLOW GAS TO SPRAY THROUGH

Your vehicle doesn't have a carburetor. What you poured gas into was the throttle body. Does it stay running once it starts? You really should check the fuel pressure to be sure but not everyone has a gauge. Changing the fuel filter would definitely be a good start. If that doesn't do it, check the fuses for the fuel pump and check the fuel pump relay. If they check out make sure the power is actually getting to the fuel pump, check the ground wire of course also. If you have good power and ground at the pump and no fuel you will have to replace the pump most likely.

2004 ford taurus hesitates when I hit the gas?

this is happening because of your fuel pressure which is slowing down when you open the throttle to the intake manifold. you are losing fuel pressure somewhere from the gas tank and the fuel rail. do a fuel pressure check test. that might do the trick.
