Any codes to go with it?

Usually the check engine light indicates an issue with the emmision controls. Most commonly it is the gas cap not on tight, or the oxygen sensor failed. Both cases it won't effect your engine.
The O2 sensor is in the exhauset before the catylytic converter, they simply unscrew and new ones screw in. If your engine is running funny then have the codes read by a mechanic, or a lot of parts stores will read the codes for you, the code will tell us what part is faulty and we can go from there. I know Autozone will be glad to read your codes for free. Let me know if you need more help with this.

Service engine soon light has come on and remain on, No visible problems driving the vehicle,

"Service Engine Soon" anounces the need of service of your car normally. Please, check your Owner´s Manual and verify the last time you sent the car to service and when, the next is coming according the manufacturer. Service shop will reset the ligth once the service is executed.

The check engine light will represent fault codes that the computer is sensing. Have a mechanic, or go to your local auto parts superstore and have them scan for the fault codes. This will at least give you an idea about some of your problems.

Service engine son ligths is on, the engine lost a

It could have been as simple as some water grounding your coil for a while (car wash? big rain storm?). If the car is running great now, you probably just have a code stored in the ECU. Autozone and O'reilly usually have a code reader which can be used to delete the code. They won't delete it for you, but they will hand you the device and let you press the button... haha. Either way, you need to get it to someone with a code reader to have the code removed. Any auto dealer can do it for a fee. I'm sure Land Rover will charge you a lot, but you can really go to any dealer. The diagnostic port is the same for all cars after 1996. Btw, the Freelander is based on the Ford Escape... so your local Ford dealer should know how to work on it as well.

Good luck.
