The parking lights on our 2001 GMC Yukon XL stay on after turning the vehicle off. This drains the battery down to prevent starting again. What is wrong?

Hi, there is a park relay in middle of the interior relay box under the dash to the left of the steering column. This is shown on page 6-61 of your owner's manual (http://www.extendedgmwarranty.com/owners-manual/gmc/2001-GMC-Yukon-Denali.pdf)
With the battery connected, pull out the relay and push it back in. If it clicks when you do this, the headlight switch is bad. If it doesn't click, the relay is bad. Try swapping the relay with another similar relay, such as the horn or A/C relay. If that solves the problem you need a relay. If not, you need a switch. Please let me know if you have any questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

It turns out that it was the Daytime Running Lights (DRL). I found that by going to the fuse box under the hood I could pull out the appropriate fuse to prevent the battery from running down.
I was not able to get into the box under the instrument panel - some kind of weird fasterner holds in it place.

Hi, so is the problem fixed or not? The fastener on the box under the dash can be turned off by hand. It is a right handed screw-on. Please let me know if you still need help.

    Thanks, jeff

My 2007 gmc yukon reverse light stays on after i even shut my vehicle off what causes that?

Alot of these new trucks keep the reverse lights on for safety so you can see, they can be turnned off using the console display, you will need to read the manual it will tell you how, there are a lot of feature that can be turnned on or off,

if you start the truck and the reverse lights stay on or if you turn it off and get out and lights stay on for more than 5 min then there is a problem, let me know if they stay on and drain the battery, otherwise it is just a feature, it can be shut down if you want, i also belive the front lights stay on also for a while unless they are shut down. good day.

MY 2001 GMC YUKON XL WILL NOT START OR TURN OVER. I REPLACE A NEW STARTER AND BATTERY, WHAT ELSE NEED TO BE DONE. ITS SEEMS LIKE ITS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

A mechanic would check for voltage at the starter, the neutral safety switch, and the key switch. Then check the battery cables and ground connections.

My parking lights stay on occasionally after turning the car off. I can't get them to turn off and it drains the battery.

Either the switch ,relay or there is a short in the circuitry. Temporarily (until you have it repaired )remove the parking lights relay or negative battery terminal.

Very easy. Turn the key to the on position without starting the truck. Press the accelerator down all the way 3 times and then on the 4th hold down until the display resets. Just that simple.

Needs a jump every day

It sounds like the battery has a dead cell in it. Replace the battery. If you have an alarm installed remove the in line fuse from the alarm and see if that stops the battery drain.
