Make sure battery has a full charge and battery connections all good. Two voltage circuits at the starter motor, one comes from the battery, hot all the time. The other goes hot with key in the start position and is wired through clutch switch, I haven't looked up info on your clutch switch. The starter motor is grounded through engine block. Any testing at starter motor, make sure tranny is out of gear and parking brake is set.
You can check the starter itself, take it off, lay it on the ground, hook up jumper cables properly from battery to starter motor, at the least, it should kick out the drive gear and spin.

My 1998 ford escort stop running no lights

start with the battery. needs at least 11 or 12 volts to start the car. By no lights, do you mean nothing, absolutely nothing comes on? no lights on dash when you turn key to on? If so, need to check battery connections. are they both tight and clean? Is battery fully charged? Before you can diagnose the car you musthave a good battery that is fully charged. Then you can try and start it. If it still wont start or crank over you may have a main fuse out that would be under hood near battery.

1994 ford escort wagon, the key inserts into ignition unit good. When turned on or to start nothing happens. then when turned to the off position check engine and other panel light stay illuminated. ...

ALWAYS start with the simplest thing first, otherwise you will get "taken" at the Parts Stores.

Clean your battery terminals! This is the MAIN cause of not starting. Clean the clamps. Use the tool they sell, or sandpaper.Inspect the ciring for corrosion. Then make sure to re-connect the clamps tighly enough so there is a good connection. (you will not be able to move the cables).

If the vehicle doesn't start, have the battery tested. Make sure you have the correct battery for your vehicle. Different batteries have different sized terminals and different cranking power.

First, try to get a jump to get the car running. If getting a jump won't start the car there is something else wrong. If the car starts, it could be that your battery is too weak to start the car but has enough power to run the lights, etc. It takes a lot of battery power to turn the starter over.

I wouldn't doubt it is one of these two problems.

Battery is draining and car isn't starting

172. (R,M). Oxygen sensor not switching - system is or was lean - Single, Right or Rear HO2S - Fuel control .... 583. (M). Fuel pump current was excessive - Power / Fuel Pump Circuits ..niether one of these issues would prevent the engine from turning over, but if one came into the shop not cranking, look at the batery, jump it to eliminate it as a possiblity, and then turn to the starter

Puma wont crank.

Lights dimming a good clue, that means that there is power going to the solonoid but starter moter wont turn. Check all battery connections and starter connections Make sure battery has enough power to turn starter or try jumper cablea.
Sometimes the starter gets jambed up due to poor lube on the bendix. try hitting the housing with a hammer. You can take the starter out and bench rebuild or just replace it its not a hard job,

is the earth cable giving a good engine and body contact.does your starter have two terminals and if so are they the right way around?is the battery any good?Is the engine able to be turned over by hand Make sure you have agood 12v supply to the starter solenoid when cranking the engine An engine test probe/light would be of a lot of use for you to do that test
